While the majority of our players can enjoy the new EVE Launcher, a small number of our players experience serious issues preventing them from updating and logging into our beloved EVE Online. To resolve this situation our EVE Launcher team went into overdrive, investigated and isolated issues, found reproduction steps and developed solutions

Workarounds explained to fix the current most prominent issues together with the near future of the EVE Launcher, read it all in this joint devblog from CCP Unifex and CCP Cascade.

1) O RLY? I uninstalled both ESET and EVE, then reinstalled EVE. Did it work? No. Did it **** me off even more? Most likely. So what do I do now that ESET is NOT an issue? Should I hammer my laptop?

2) A small number? Let's see how CCP profits would do if that "small number" said screw it and took their money some place else...jerk.

Hello,

I'd like to give a little feedback on how the new launcher experience works for me.

First of all, I have some internet issues, which means a general low bandwidth with occasional connection stalls when more than one connection tries to transmit data concurrently.

That's not so bad for actually playing EVE: I can go whole evenings without problems, and the client itself is streamlined so well now that very little data is actually exchanged even in laggy situations - I've helped kill Incursion motherships.

The launcher however, let me tell you how that works for me:

1) New launcher version appears. Small update window. Takes a few minutes to attempt to download new launcher version. Hangs. Starts over from 0%. Three attempts and the better part of an hour later:

2) Launcher downloads more launcher updates in a bigger window, with progress bar. Fortunately, it seems to know of "ftp reget" so that's only half as painful as 1). Success!

3) Launcher launches, detects new version, starts 4 downloads at once. Instant halt. I found the setting to configure it to use only one connection at the same time. Works better, but every once in a while the player count is updated creating a second connection. About once per hour that stalls the whole process. Fortunately, it knows of "ftp reget", too. Takes manual intervention every once in a while to restart, and won't run through the night on its own.

4) Next day I discover a new patch has been created. Launcher scraps whole download so far and starts a new one to update to the new patch directly.

5) The repair tool failed to start either from launcher or directly opened in Explorer.

6) Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to install EVE on a friend or work computer just to run the launcher there to export successive patch sets.

It's been like this for the last few patches and I'm getting a little annoyed.

In the end, I found it easiest to do a full client download in at least one case, because, you know, I can set a RELIABLE download client to chug along on its own for a night or weekend, or from work - even with bandwidth limitations so it doesn't much bother other internet uses.

Now, since the launcher is able to export and import patches, would it be kindly possible to provide those exports directly somewhere so I can download them say from the old patches download page that's still being referenced from the Evelopedia?

http://community.eveonline.com/patches/patches.asp

Also, Step 1) and Step 2) are highly annoying considering the launcher is being hailed as the tool the get RID of problems like downloads restarting from 0% when they fail half way through.

Thank you for listening.

Hello,

...problems with patching in launcher...

Thank you for listening.

There's a separate thread that's been used recently where they've listed the patches for manual downloads (just like they used to do before the launcher, I found it convenient to do that way on more than one occasion in the past)

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=92005&find=unread

It's been updated when the new patches came out recently.

Whether or not they continue to do this in the future remains to be seen but I, for one, would like to see the old link come back for the manual download section as a first stop option for those who have difficulty with the launcher.

sort of edit :
Hmmm... just checked the link and while it doesn't give the patch.exe downloads (as it did for the main Escalation patch a few daysa go) it does give the .zip files to patch that way.

The launcher keeps opening even though I have the check box not to open it if there isn't an update. This worked fine for me when it was first put in but now it comes up every time. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Clear a cache or something? I'm unable to find this problem in the threads.

Thanks

50 minutes and STILL not able to log into eve.

Is this launcher the fix for lag? Deny most of the population access to the game?

Tried one of the tips on here and at first the launcher appeared (at last) but then started downloading the entire game...

If I had the audacity to release something that doesn't work, I would be fired…

I hope this launcher gets sorted out soon, its taking more time to get into eve then I have to play it..

I was having Launcher problems a few hours ago, but I fixed them really easy. I went to Program Files/CCP/EVE and went to the Repair Application and ran that, it had to update so I let it do that and ran it again, it fixed EVE and I ran the EVE.exe and the launcher started up and updated EVE and I was able to play just fine

Keep trying things, I'm sure you'll get something. I guess mine was just being weird, but the repair thing fixed it. Yours might be a CCP problem

I am continuing to have issues with my launcher software.

But I have a feeling I am starting to understand why the issue is happening.

On ALL workstations I have the software installed in an NON-DEFAULT configuration, the launcher refuses to work.

As long as I have it installed in the DEFAULT location it works every time.

Please have your launcher team look into this, as this might be the cause of a lot of your issues, as it is coded in a certain way that only works with the default configuration.

For those who are down like I am here is what I have done to get around the issues.

Go into the CCP\EVE and run repair.exe it will patch the eve client to the newest version
Go into CCP\EVE\Bin and run exefile.exe and the main login window will kick in without going to the launcher.

Should at least get you active.

If you are interested in trying to update the launcher window manually (as I have found this "can" work from time to time)

Go into CCP\EVE\launcher\cache and run updater.exe it should patch the launcher window to the newest version and "possibly" open correctly upon completion.

Hope this helps the ones that are stuck, and gives ammo to the launcher team to get things functioning again.

Can you elaborate on your "non-default" configuration some more. I don't use the default configuration myself; I have a symlink to a different drive (d:\ for example) bound under c:\builds (being a developer I have many EVE clients) and I've not had an issue with the Launcher and non-default location.

I'd really like the details so I can work out what your issue is Smile

Currently I have the Eve client installed on 3 workstations.

1. is a laptop in the default install location and it works flawlessly everytime Windows XP
2. gaming rig have it installed in G:\program files\ccp\eve\ (only difference between the default install location and the install location is the drive letter on this workstation) Windows 7
3. backup system if gaming rig goes down have it installed on d:\ccp\eve and it doesnt work (windows xp)

I have moved the install files from the non-default location to a default location on the backup system and repaired the install it appeared to start working again.

As we have not had a patch or update since my last set of testing I can not be 100% sure that the fix I found works 100%.

On my gaming rig, I am unable to put the eve client in the default location due to data contraints on my SSD drive.

Ok where are people finding these patch URL's because when I search, I end up on the same page. Telling me Updates only come from EVE Launcher. Eve launcher has be completely Fail. I has never updated one time, I always have to do some crazy workaround to get on my client. I Just want the URL for the patches. Ive already spent 3+ hours this morning trying to fix it.

I am trying to update the Launcher itself since 3 days but the download speed here in SE Asia is terrible - no matter if I try it even from work or from home - never faster than 5kb / sec and often it stops / interrupt it.

Not even want to talk about the Patch itself. Hope it will be resolved and improved with the Launcher - causing too much trouble when the Internet Connection is not like 100Mbit/sec

The eve client? I'm not sure what you are asking. The regular game if you are asking about Singularity/Tranquility.

Error message is the following:

The EVE Launcher cannot update a directory from which processes are running. Please close the following process: exefile.exe

Also, launcher window still comes up when I start the game even if there is no update, and I have the selection to not show it turned on.

Tried to repair the game, it reinstalled the launcher but still no luck on getting it to run two game clients.

I have exactly the same problem.
ATM Eve Luncher can only run 1 client per session while he try to update the install folder NOW! ( dunno why) each time ur start it.

To resolve the problem for the moment:

Start the exefile itself ... ccp/bin/ExeFile.exe
or
start the eve luncher go to "Settings -> Startup" and enable the option "Only display luncher window when there is an update"

Not happy, but a complete reinstall fixed this. I also deleted all my cache files.
