Very short:

If you expect to be shot at regularly, then use the AF .. their staying power is quite something especially when it comes to the Vengeance.
All other scenarios, use the Malediction. Crusader can be very good but after the recent rocket buff and the MWD killing scrams it doesn't get very far compared to its black cousin.

As for which AF is best .. depends. Some can take a Vengeance into a neut heavy environment and shine like the morning sun while others have to rely on the Retributions range to survive.

Fly them all, lose them all, find one you are comfortable with .... and abuse the snot out of it.

Smartbombs in Hofjaldgund... just sayin

I was talking more about Tengus and the likes, but that's not a bad idea. I may have to re-fit my Typhoon for that.

Im looking to start using t2 frigates since I can easily take the loss of many now. Im not sure which of these two types to focus on. I know next to nothing about either. Can anyone offer me some words of wisdom. I do like the idea of using rockets just to have a change from lasers which either type has one of. Also i have very little pvp experience so I'll be learning a lot.

Using T2 frigs as opposed to T1 frigs, won't put you in God mode. I've killed AF pilots with a simple T1 cruiser which is a heck of alot cheaper.

If you want to fly T2 AFs, go for it. But just don't assume it gives you an edge in combat.

And on the flip side, I've killed T1 cruisers, T2 cruisers, T1 BCs, T2 BCs, and BS's in T2 AFs... yes it does give you an edge. It doesn't give you god mode.

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

Once I get there which ship type would be most welcome in low sec corps?

Depends on the corp, what they do, and what would be useful to them. Some want AFs, some want interceptors, some want both, some want neither. I recommend training whatever you like, then finding a corp that fits.

For example, my corp focuses on frigate and cruiser small gang PvP in a FW setting. T1 frigates and destroyers are great because you can just lose them infinitely and not care about the money much. Assault frigates are great as they are small but have very big damage or tank. Interceptors are great as they can catch pesky elusive ships like Amarr mission-runners. Cruisers are great because they provide above-AF performance, albeit at a lower speed, but for a fraction of the cost. And we use... all of them Pirate

I like the sound of that, mind if I hit you up for an application when I get a little more practice under my belt?

The point of a newbie-friendly corp like Rifterlings is to help people get practice and get into it. Feel free to come hang out in the "weflyrifters" in-game channel. Keep in mind we are US timezone, though. There might be a mismatch there. Even if there is, come hang out and you may meet other likeminded people.

Malediction is a fantastic ship. 30km+ point is fantastic for fleets and it is fast as hell. I personally have flown this extensively and really enjoy using it.

Perhaps not as important, it is Khanid and looks amazing.
