So I've been playing eve for since 2008 (off and on, not all the time) and I've only done mining and low level missions.. I made this new character because I would like to start getting into PvP.. I have basic knowledge of the game.. But nothing on PvP.. I'm looking more into solo pvp, only because I don't have any friends and my old corp is dead Sad, so what would be a good ship to start out to practice with, preferably Gallente? I've been leaning towards using a Mega I have under 100k SP on this character, so all the skills I have at the moment are just the basics. Soon I'll try to find a new corp and PvP with them, I would like to use a BS in a gang, but I have no idea if it's a good idea or not..

If you want to learn how to PvP, going for a battleship is not a wise choice for several reasons.

Start with frigates or cruisers and learn the ropes. Most solo PvP is done by those ship classes anyway. As they are much more fun to fly (fast, agile, versatile) compared to bigger ships.
Battleships is almost exclusively used in huge fleet battles or when POS bashing.

Secondly, since you are just beginning to pvp, you will lose a lot of ships...losing 20-30 frigates or cruisers is not that expensive.
Losing 20+ battleships will make you poor rather quick...

If you really want to pvp a lot I would recommend Red vs Blue. Two corporations that is constantly at war with each other. The amount of solo you can get in RvB is not comparable to anything you might achieve if just cruising solo in low-nullsec.

For ships, try out the Gallente frigate, the Incursus...or maybe Tristan if you want a little more umph...

Look for a good corp first. Learn to pvp with them.

Solo pvp is the most difficult form of pvp, so I suggest you leave those plans behind until you get some basic experience.

Fly as the cheap dps in your new corps gangs in cheap T1 ships (rupture, arbitrator, hurricane, drake...)

Ungi maðurinn þekkir reglurnar, en gamli maðurinn þekkir undantekningarnar. The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions.

I am not going to agree with those saying that solo PvP isn't a good idea.

It's actually the best way to learn as you notice thing that you wouldn't pay attention to in a fleet.

I suggest you do a bit of both Solo and group PvP.

Since you are new to it, i strongly suggest you start with frigs or cheap T1 cruizers. No matter what ship you fly or the level of experience, doing solo pvp is dangerous. In fact, you should always tell yourself that you ship is already dead, as you will loose a lot of them. So be prepared to loose ships in great numbers. Once you get experience, you can try to solo PvP in a nice BC, as they make good baits.

Do NOT use a BS in solo Pvp. You won't stand a chance against a small groups of frigates or even cruizer that can keep you out of range and kill you. BS are for gang and large fleets only. Do not fly one alone in lowsec, as they give best rewards to pirates while not giving much advantages unless you fight one on one with an other BS.

Bigger dosn't mean better. If you are flying a BS you have to choose targets of similar size like other BS, and BCs. Your large guns won't hit those smaller and faster ships. Since you will most likely find BCs, Cruisers and Frigs in lowsec, i strongly recommend you keep your BS for fleet only.

FiS should be the priority, but WiS should not be burried!

Don't encourage CCP to make empty promises or Incarna will happen again!

You could try a few Eve University courses?

http://www.eveuniversity.org/about/

Otherwise, for solo PVP I found a Vexor or Thorax were fun, small, Gallente ships with relatively low SP requirements.
As the others have already said, it's best to avoid battleships whilst you are a beginner.

Do you mean 100000sp? if so I would focus on game mechanics first while u build some pvp ex in a corp.

Hmm sounds like you need quite a bit of training yet but here's some good solo gallente ships.(suggest you cross train in amarr or minmatar down the road so you can be more versatile in your ship choice and also get to fly the kick-ass faction ships)

Blaster/plated Thorax

Triple rep Myrmidon

Double rep Ishtar

and Megathron........ sniper and blaster fits for fleet ops. I try to stay away from soloing in this.

Solo in the Dominix.

Hope this helps out.

Better off doing the Agony Unleashed courses (url below) - Eve Uni have a dedicated corp that members can drop to simply to take Agony courses (ITA I think - Introduction To Agony). Eve Uni members drop corp for the weekend and join ITA then rejoin Eve-Uni. Means theres no messy blue stuff and no Eve-Uni rules of engagement.

Eve Uni teaches you the absolute basics about PvP. Agony goes a good deal further if you choose to do all the courses.

I believe PvP-Basic is free to students who genuinely can't afford the fee (Somer.Blink sponsored that a while back).

www.agony-unleashed.com - worth a look for any new PvP pilot....

Thanks for the advice/discussion on this thread.

Like the OP, I've been considering giving PvP a more earnest try (among other avenues in Eve.)

I’m not crazy. I’m just a little unwell.
