Courier mission scamming

I've seen a few courier missions that i would be happy to do, but i'm scared of getting scammed. They have very high collateral, with only 1 - 15 mill payouts.

Is there a way for me to get scammed from these?

I accept contract, dude see's contract accepted, then somehow cancels contract and keeps my collateral?

I don't care if he see's the contract accepted and then tries to blow me up or something, i'm confident enough in my space skills that i'll get the package where it needs to go. And i wont accept ones to player outposts that i cant dock at. But from one highsec system to another, if they don't blow me up, can i be scammed in some other way??

Also, can i forfeit my collateral and open the box?

Yes, you can forfeit your colateral and open the box. See what is worth that few billion isk. But having a high collateral and a small reward is standard for courier contracts. Red Frog even requires it.

Everything created by a player in this game is some sort of scam or another. Courier contracts are a neat idea, but like anything else in this game, its more likely a scam than not. That is the safest way to look at it to keep your isk.

They can't cancel once the contract has been accepted.

You are mixing terms here. Courier missions are from distribution agents. Courier contracts are what you are talking about.

You can look at the contents of a courier contract (once you accept it) and see what is in it. Fun way to steal stuff if you know you can make more money selling the item rather than delivering it, hence the collateral. A lot of people often want something delivered from or to a trade hub but don't want to waste the time to do it.

Occasionally you'll find the cheap-o idiot who will put 700,000m3 of refined metals up with a 5 million isk collateral. Much profit can be had. Twisted

Occasionally you'll find someone will post multiple contracts (sort by name). If you have good luck with them the look for them by name for repeat business. I did this once long enough that I was contacted directly by the corp for some runs while they were at war.

Eventually I got bored hauling stuff and did other things, but you can make a healthy profit if you can find a customer base.

They can, however, wait for you to undock with their courier package that contains nothing but scrap metal with a billion isk collateral and gank you... thus making you unable to complete the contract and forfeiting the collateral.

Some are legit, many are scams just like buy/sell contracts. It sounds like you'll avoid most of the scams I've heard of but I'm not really a hauler so eh.

People will camp stations and pop you, the player outpost scam is probably the most popular one I've heard of, if they can find a way to keep you from docking i guess that would be the only way but with highsec it isnt really an issue as long as it is to/from an NPC station.

Truthfully player courier missions are a cool and all but really not worth it. If you have the money for the collateral you can make a lot more money playing the market buying low hauling somewhere and selling higher

Here's a trade secret. If you want to see what's in the package, put it in a courier contract of your own, it will get re-wrapped & you'll get a list of the contents.

At which point there's a good chance the contract maker was a tard, and you can deliberately fail for a nice tidy profit. Blink I used to use genuine couriers all the time when I was exploring. Too lazy to haul, didn't want to worry about suicide ganks, so I'd just offer some terrible payment. (like1-3 mil) for up to 20 jumps. The only reason I could ever think of that people put up 2 bil collateral for a payout like that was because they were hoping I fucked up the collateral and made it too low.

Here's a better one. Just double-click the package.
