IMHO, trade hubs (ie Jita) should be combat-free zones
(you still have to run the gauntlet getting in and out, though)

on the contrary it works fine, Eve is the only MMO that has been steadily increasing it's subscriber base since it's conception. Most MMO's seem to rise and fall in under 5 years, Eve has been going for 10 and apart from the occasional blip such as the summer of (WTF are you doing CCP) discontent, the subscriber base has increased.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

But seriously its a highsec system, the majority are outside of the war dec system.

Your game mechanics as they stand are being proved, once again by your players, to be inadequate.
There appears to be no reason for them to stop until there bored.
Is it the intention for the large alliances to be able to avoid serious concord disruption by just being big enough that any effect to a single pilot is negligible?

Concord is controlled by an AI, if it were a real intelligence behind them this couldn't happen, thus your game mechanics are failing. Hypothetically speaking if this were happening and real people were involved concord would outlaw Goons etc. throughout highsec or some form of Martial law would be enforced.

This is of course going to bring out every goon and there fanboi's out in droves, but we are playing a game, a game with rules for highsec/lowsec/nullsec. Right now the effectiveness of said game rules in highsec are unquestionably broken.

Again big up to goonies, if theres a fault we are assured they will bring it to the fore.

Please tell me this character is your main.

Also: the system is working just fine. Every ship that aggresses a non-wardec'd target has been destroyed. Our K/D ratio is terrible, and that makes me so sad I need to blow something up to feel better.

It's a tough cycle.

This event: We're doing this for your own good. You'll thank us later, or quit. Either way, the game will be improved.

How so? High-sec is not Invulnerable-sec. It is not PvP-Free-Sec. It is simply higher security. You are not guaranteed safety, but you are guaranteed there will be a faster response to aggression.

And it's likely while some who are not suited to EVE will read that, others will look at it and see:

"Join EVE, a sandbox where every player can have an impact and where the developers applaud player initiative. Enjoy a game with almost no limits"

And they will flock to it. I'd say that every player upset at this, thinking the Goons need to be stopped do not understand EVE and its core principles.

And how do you draw this conclusion? I think this is just your opinion being expressed and not the actual case here. There are quire a few players who have joined EVE because of the reporting of events like this and who may well join for the same reason. Welcome to EVE.

Thankfully CCP doesn't hold the same opinion, it likes things the way they are currently.

Don't offer poor advice. They should go to Jita and conduct their business normally, for it is the only way to show us the proper conduct of operations!

Inadequate for what? The mechanics are there to ensure that aggression in highsec comes at a cost. By all accounts, they're doing exactly that (in fact, they've unfortunately been more than adequate by having tidi come in conflict with crimewatch, causing more costs than what was actually intended).

How are they avoiding CONCORD disruption? Are they not being blown up when they shoot illegal targets? If so, then it probably has far more to do with the server load than the size of the alliance(s) involved.

How is it failing? This is supposed to be possible, so the mechanics would be broken if it couldn't happen. Fortunately, it can, so things don't seem to be broken just yet.

Amber Solaire wrote:

Why on earth should they be? That would go against the fundamental design principle of the game. Trade hubs are pure player creation, so they can't be protected through code — if you want to make it secure, guess where that security has to come from? Players.

I don't think he knows how CONCORD works. When there's some serious ganking going on, the number of CONCORD ships is pretty hilarious.

In fact, subscription numbers increase after events like this... and are the cornerstone of much of EVE's advertising focus.

Concord is behaving exactly as it is supposed to. If you do not feel like you are adequately protected in this situation, YOU are the one that is not functioning correctly.

You are responsible for your safety in EVE, no one else.
