Technically, the FULL answer for general newbie ship training plans has one extra step.

Step 1: Remap to Perception/Intelligence (roughly even split).

THEN do support skills, then t2 modules, then t2 ships.

Also, a note: might as well make some Advanced Weapon Upgrades V voodoo dolls now, you're going to hate that skill a ******* lot until you've actually finished it.

I'm using the Evemon skill planner, and it's optimizer recommended attribute map pretty close to what you recommended.

My magnanimous CEO urged me to train up as many support skills as I can afford them (which I am doing btw), long before I even posted this thread, as they will improve my overall effectiveness. So it's nice to know that the consensus agrees.

That said, I want to be clear on what I know to be a support skill: it's any skill that affects a broad (or broader) class of fittings (small energy turret, gunnery in general, mining in general) or directly affects all standard ship attributes (like CPU, shield strength/recharge, capacitor, navigation, armor HP, hull HP, etc). This would exclude skills provide only modest improvements to specific fittings, like the various Advanced X skills or skills related to a particular damage type. Is my thinking pretty close? Am I missing something important?

It really depends on how versatile you want to be.

In general, yes, I'd define a support skill as one that affects every (combat) ship you're going to fly. It's not true that all Advanced X skills are specialized. Advanced Weapon Upgrades, for example, is useful for every ship that uses hislot weapons.

The value of support skills vs more specific skills depends on how many different types of ships you want to fly in the short term.
