As per the title

I have a limited monthly internet quota and am always looking for ways on saving data transfer, there are plenty of people in similar situations around the world.
Both myself and my GF play EvE, and it would be nice to have an oppertunity to import an update that was exported from another client rather than have her client also instantly pull another copy of the same update off the net

One suggestions is leave the current automatic update as a default if it pleases most players, but include a checkbox in the configuration to disable automatic updates and/or have a dialogue box popup saying "A new update is available, version xxxx, size 349Mb" or similar

Whilst on the subject is there anything else that you guys @ CCP can do to save me data flow
Have you considered allowing the installer to be mirrored? (My ISP does not meter downloads from their server).

There's this handy thing called copy and paste.

  1. Update your game.
  2. Copy the install directory.
  3. Paste it over the other install directory.

No need to patch twice.

Not quite as easy as that.

EvE is just shy of 11gig, even on a lan that takes some time.
Also unless you were picky with the c&p the other client would loose its unique settings.
And what is the point of an export / import tool if you don't get an oppertunity to use it?

The Export / Import Patch system was designed so that you can output the .patch files somewhere and then import them to another installation.

To be honest it is an overly complicated and slightly broken system.
What is actually better to do is manually go to your EVE directory and then copy across the .patch files in there (unless you have turned off the default option of keeping them)

When you start the launcher it will recognise the .patch is already downloaded and simply apply it.
