I played eve a long time ago, was indy/miner. I have a mining alt that pulls about 8m an hour in high sec. All I used to hear was how stupid miners were and mission running made more isk. I have been on this pve toon for a couple of months now, I am running level 2's, and at best I get 200k a mission, loot isnt worth grabbing, its all low lvl stuff, and I am only making about 500k or so an hour. I'm wondering when the isk is going to start rolling in or am I missing something? Good isk at 3's and 4's?

Level 3 is usually the point where missions begin to surpass mining, and at level 4 there's no comparison.

PVP is a question with no single right answer, but a lot of wrong ones.

After a couple months you should be in a BC doing level 3s. They are okay isk, but level 4s you can make a living.

Agreeing with lvl 4 missions. You'll have a decent isk flow with not much real work.

As a former miner myself, I'll echo the others saying level 4s. I didn't even bother with level 3s at all, but rather skipped them entirely. Trust me, when you get there you'll want to train your mining alt to do salvage work in a Noctis (it might seem like most of the loot in level 4s is crap -- and most of it is -- but a lot of crap adds up fast, even if you're just reprocessing most of it back down to minerals and selling those on the market.)

I'm currently making as much in just a few hours of missioning as I could have in an entire Saturday spent grinding roids, with just two characters as oppose to two miners and Orca support, and generally poor skills, bad tank (~360) and low dps (~450). Shoot, I've made more in the past few days of missions than I could have made in a week of mining, and that's counting the loss of two noctis and an apocalypse. My now almost-useless Orca alt is being trained to fly a drake, to augment my terrible low level skills performance.

Just give yourself a few days to get the kinks worked out, and before you realise what you did it you'll start to wonder if you accidentally pushed the "easy mode" button in your wallet. In fact, my isk generation has fast gotten ahead of my skill level, and I'm more or less running out of useful things to buy. Unless I just start hoarding random junk. Or maybe filling out my character's wardrobe...

All the reply posts here are pretty accurate. You're kind of in the boring grind out the standings stage. Once youre on lvl 4's theres not much you will need to worry about except how to do the missions faster to up your isk /hr ratio. Like somone mentioned above, if you have an alt in a noctis salvaging as you go this tremendously improves your ratio.
I used to do a fair bit of mining before i knew better :D Then i used to mine to build the bs's i use for missioning. Now I can typically build a bs from all the melted junk i loot except for a little stock of Zydrine and Megacyte.

Stick with it and you'll be on a good route to having enough isk to live by.

I agree with many of the above posts. I never got into exhumer mining until recently, and that is mining ice to fuel a pos, not mining ores to refine and sell. So, I do not have the best comparison. But I could see level 4 missions as more lucrative. Both will get boring after a while anyway. So I often welcome the change of pace between the two.

Enjoy level 3s and 4s as long as they are fresh and new for you. You will probably want to progress to Cyclone for level 3s and Maelstrom for level 4s (if you fly minmatar since you are minmatar). However, some rats will be hard on those ships, Sansha in particular with high em damage and tracking disruption. So you might also want to train any of the other races as an alternative when those missions come up (gallente armor-drone, caldari shield resist bonus-missile, or amarr armor-laser boats) to address those problems if you find yourself getting a fair number of blood raider or sansha missions. Regardless, having two races of mission/pvp ships is your best insurance against nerfs, being stuck in suckage, or just simply finding out you like drones over missiles or whatever.

No comparison to hisec mining anyway.

OP, yes, as stated l3's will equal mining income if not surpass it, level 4's will make hisec mining look like.... hisec mining.

The largest difference, is in the loyalty points. You go from scraping the bottom of the barrel, to swimming in them.

That's quite strange. I've only been playing for 15 days and I could already be sitting in a Myrmydon or even Dominix if I wasn't trying to get a full set of +3 implants and training up to T2 drones before leaving the Vexor.

Here's what the income from my last L2 mission looks like:

Pirate Intrusion

Rewards:
180,000
232,000 (time bonus)

Bounties:
181,127.00
255,376.00

Loot:
Serpentis Silver Tag - worth around 300k
16x Tripped Power Circuit - 70k each
Other random stuff amounting to around 100k

Total: 2,368,503

lvl 3's it picks up lvl 4's is where the moneys at and exploration is what is super fun. doing just your run of the mill low sec sashas den/staging points with my on board scanner I made 10 mil in an hour. it is very very very random though. I also got a true sanshas spawn that droped a true sanshas enam which is worth 20 mil. you can do most of the site in a drake as long as they arent the ones you have to probe down. those can be really tough depending on what it is and the strength level. I use my noctis alt to salvage(half of the income)
