So, what should a new player watch out for when neing invited to a corp? I don't want to be dragged out in space somewhere and killed off;) Any advice or cautionary tales?

Well unfortunately such is the risk that you have to take but I would be cautious about any random recruiting offer put out of the blue with honeyed words or if they ever ask you a payment or deposits for joining (most notably goons like to scam with this).

If you're looking for a corp you have:
a recruitment channel in game, recruitment section in the forums and the corp recruitment thing in corporation panel.

In general if the offer is too good it usually is, of c. not everyone is out there to scam you since as a new player you hardly have any ISK or assets to steal from which may or may not change in the future.

First of all, there is no such thing as being pulled into a corp.

You actually have to apply yourself to any corporation, so do your research on them before applying.

As a new player you don't have much to worry about - mostly because you don't really have much to lose. There are a few organizations in New Eden that use recruitment scamming as a form of auxiliary income, but it's unlikely that they'd target you since you probably don't have 500 million ISK sitting around.

What you do need to look out for are "null-sec" groups that are trying to recruit newbies and give you this nice rhetoric about how even day 1 newbies can be important and usefull and yaddayadda. These guys are really just looking to pad their membership numbers and recruit some cannon fodder. Also they're often looking for "fresh minds" to groom into manageable little drones.

If I could do the "new player" all over again, I would look for a hi-sec/lo-sec corp that focuses on what you're interested in in the game, that are genuinely newbie friendly and are interested in encouraging and helping you.

Befor applying to any corp do your best to research the corp, usually corps have a description about what they do and their goals in eve. Some also have websites. Though stated someone said be cautious of 0.0 alliances not all scam or use and abuse new player. But in eve knowledge is your best defense from scams. If your unsure ask around. If you wanna ask me more feel free to pc or mail me.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Assuming you're not putting all your stuff in corp hangars or POSes, your risk is limited to the ship you are flying, your implants and the cargo you are carrying. If you follow the mantra "don't fly what you can't afford to lose" you'll be fine.

Remember that the corp has no more reason to trust you than you have to trust them. Also if someone is scammed by a corp, they will usually whine about it somewhere. Google the CEO/Directors/Corp name.
