Tractor beam

Ok, this SHOULD probably go under ships&modules or features&ideas, but i think it deserves a little more attention.

Why o why is there a Small Tractor Beam with a range of 20km, a level 2 version with ONLY 4 km's more and then a simply STAGGERING jump to Capital Tractor Beam, with a range of 200km?

Why is there no 50km or 100km tractor beam in the game?

I have a small one on my BS, which i use to drag cans ( for mission related item drops ) and to loot ships, without needing to slowboat my way towards them, but seeing as i take out most of my targets before they get anywhere near me ( 50km away from me on average ), i STILL have to slowboat for ages.

Buy a Noctis, train the ship skill to a minimum of 3, hey presto 55+km tractor beam range with a speed boost to boot.

Those extra 4km really add up when you have a Noctis.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

Don't know if you run any lvl4 security mission, but that would mean:
warp to location.
Slowboat to acceleration gate.
Gank targets.
use acceleration gate.
Slowboat to next acceleration gate.
Gank targets.
use acceleration gate.
Slowboat to next acceleration gate.
Gank targets.
use acceleration gate.
Slowboat to next acceleration gate.

Warp to station to get noctis.
Slowboat to acceleration gate.
target wrecks.
move wrecks in.
salvage and loot.
use acceleration gate.
Slowboat to next acceleration gate.
target wrecks.
move wrecks in.
salvage and loot.
use acceleration gate.
Slowboat to next acceleration gate.

use acceleration gate.
Slowboat to next acceleration gate.

salvage and loot.

Warp to station to dump loot and salvaged parts.
get battleship out.
Warp to the system of your agent.
Complete mission.

All that shyte, while all i wanted, was to gank for the bounty and the mission income ( LP and ISK ) and loot a couple of the bigger ships.

Edit: I do have a Noctis though.

Edit 2: in terms of time, this is very inefficient, cause as far as i know, i make more isk in an hour of shooting high bounty npc's then i do in selling salvaged parts.

Bookmark a wreck in each room.. turn in mission.. then warp to bookmarks.

Also if you've never used a Noctis, you simply have no idea how fast it cleans up.. I can't lock targets fast enough to keep up with my tractors and salvagers..

As for why the jump.. because Cap ships don't have a tractor range bonus generally [ at all ? Haven't looked recently ] where as there is the Noctis for sub-cap.. Hence they need the range boost for them.

There's a quicker way,

1: take level 4 mission
2: kill everything in sight and complete mission, bookmark a wreck in each room before returning to agent
3: dock in the agents station, complete mission
4: swap to noctis
5: change system if needed
6: warp to your bookmarks and clean up your mess
7: goto 1

I can usually do a level 4, clean up my trash and be back onto the next mission in between 10 and 40 minutes depending on the mission, that's using a Drake of all things because I can't be arsed to train for battleships yet (I have 2 other chars to train on this account)

Don't forget the salvage, some of it is worthless but some of it in quantity really rakes in the isk

A: Do mission, come back with noctis
B: make a friend and have them salvage behind you or hire them to be your friend.
C: Dual box and do both at once
D: Marauder
E: Normal ship with tractor beam and HTFU

Trouble is though, as long as you have the mission running ( not completed at agent yet ), you can't warp to the wrecks directly.
And i was talking about the loot you often need to complete a mission ( like 10x militia or something )

In that case I normally set course for where the completion loot is while killing everything else, often things like militia are in personnel carriers or the last thing you kill so select either the personnel carrier, spawn container or what you are going to kill last of all as a point to head towards, admittedly that's a lot easier said than done in anything with shortrange.

lol hilarious.

Noctis ... buh, humbug.

Run the mission and bookmark every room.
Close the mission when done.

If wrecks are spread far apart, warp to 100 to first bookmark.
If the closest wreck is >150km, bookmark the new spot.
Warp to wreck, salvage and loot.
Do the same for all surrounding, close by, wrecks.

Warp back to the new spot bookmark,
warp to the next wrecks.

Etc. for the next room.
No slowboating, no relying on tractor ranges.

Noctis ftw. I love that thing. And if you don't like slow-boating, you can fit a MWD on the noctis. Mine does 1km/s.

There is. It's called a Noctis with fully trained skills and a T2 tractor.

Capital tractor beams are for - capital ships. You are comparing apples and oranges.

Edit: reading your other posts this sounds more like "waaa I wanna kill everything and be able to loot everything but I don't want to bother training for another ship, getting organized, or spending actual time doing it. Please deposit lootz directly in my station hangar CCP".

Or use the Orca for a bonus to tractor range as well.

Who 'slow boats' in a level 4? Fit an AB or a MWD.
Who 'slow boats' in a Noctis? Fit a WMD.
