I was feeling bored and wanted to train something new, so I though why not check out the T3 ships. I already got Ammar cruiser 5, so i thought I 'd go for the legion. Of course after some quick reading I saw that the most popular reply in T3 topics was: tengu tengu tengu tengu tengu tengu.

So that's the case I guess? T3=tengu?

Because the Tengu is considered the best PVE boat of the T3s.

It's also very good in some popular fleet or pvp configurations today.

High EHP AB Sig Tanking Tengu for example, or the 100mn AB Tengu fit for example.

Though Loki and Legion are gaining more ground as a fleet ship while Proteus remains in a support role for fleets.

Proteus is still amazing for lowsec/solo/small gang/wh PVP.

Are you going to run mission/anom PvE or blob PvP in a fleet upward tripple digits? Then yes, Tengu.

The Legion is mainly used for Incursion PvE and solo- or small-medium PvP.

This is a very wise opinion.

@OP
Let me add that Legion is not that bad for what I see on the field and discussing with friends using those on a regular basis, it has some issues but if you really want to feel bad flying something solo/small group then fly a Proteus and you'll know what I mean.
Legion has a huge tank, a very decent dps, good mobility and most important, has an engagement window pretty large compared with Proteus.

You shouldn't compare Legion to Tengu because actually if you pick each and every one of T3's T2 fitted you'll see Tengu is not that pimp and needs a hell of isk amount to become a pure beast.
The major problem of all other T3's than Tengu is their fitting options and subs, they're at least 2levels under Tengu, just like if they weren't finished or something alike.

On the other hand, pick a Tengu fit T2 and learn/enjoy what versatility and skill wise a ship can be, faction/DED fit it and it becomes a real beast, but only with huge amounts of isk and specific mods created by devs with this specific intention of abuse etc

Don't believe the hype.

If you like the Legion- go for it!

T3s originate from wormhole space, where their qualities are very desirable, pilots can afford to fly them and small gang combat is the norm.

Check out the stats of some major wormhole alliances/corps:

Transmission Lost
Rooks and Kings
Adhocracy Inc.
Aquila Inc.
SRS
Aperture Harmonics
Narwhals ate my duck
Exhale.
NorCorp Enterprise

Proteus 15156
Legion 15044
Loki 14892
Tengu 3292

As you can see, all of the three PVP T3s get combat use. Maybe one is more prominent than others, I'd guess they just don't read the forums enough. Even the PVE T3 is occasionally seen in combat.

Thanks for the feedback guys, and sorry on my part for not saying from the beggining on how I would fly it. I said I only like to pvp and its usually in small gangs/roams, so no I wouldnt fly solo I wouldnt trust myself going alone with such an expensive ship :P

So from what I understand Legion could be an ok choice for what I like to do in Eve so I could train that in case I want to fly a T3 in the future
