My understanding of our friends, the Goons.

Introduction:
These Goons are not the enemy, they are quite possibly the best thing to ever happen to EVE. They have an agenda which includes some considerations for the long-term success of the game however, their implementation is often intentionally brutal, sadistic, but always involves copious quantities of dark humor.

    What makes a Goon cry?

  • At one point in time, not too long ago EVE was perceived by the masses as having two separate sides, the null-sec, and the high-sec and that there was no meaningful interaction between the two. That isn't what a single-shard universe is all about.
  • If the production process is not properly balanced the entire system could be controlled or even collapsed by only a few, New Eden may be vast but when imbalances are allowed to occur it unnecessarily shrinks the size of the game.
  • Not too long ago, Super-capitals were not fun for anyone, and needed to be fixed.
  • CCP will not address gameplay issues until they affect the majority of the player base.

The tears do nothing!

The Goons found themselves faced with these concerns cried for an awfully long time through thousands if not tens of thousands of forum posts, however the response received was unanimous nobody cares when a Goon cries. The hive learned a valuable lesson, the tears of others not only taste sweeter, but could change the universe.

The Hive

To my knowledge two massively successful implementations of the philosophy of putting the tears of others to work include the pursuit of a Technetium monopoly as well as an interdiction of Oxygen Isotopes. These various implementations imagined by the Goons have all been felt and experienced by ALL players, it is now undeniable that null-sec politics directly affect high-sec profit margins. This resolves the Hive's first issue, a complete universe.

CCP has mentioned "Ring Mining", as an solution to the moon-goo imbalances while an idea and an implementation are far from the same, this at least addresses the Hive's second issue, a balanced system of production.

The Goons had, and continue to hold a significant super capital fleet, however they championed a campaign to have these behemoths brought in-line with the competition. The Hive cannot take full credit, but the 2011 CSM certainly voiced their opinions, and the repercussions have been felt by super-capital pilots as recently as yesterday's patch. This resolves the Hive's third issue, Super-capitals Online... no longer.

The Future

The final concern of the Hive still remains, CCP does not react to issues until they affect the majority of players. However we can rest uneasily knowing that our friends, the Goons will continue to have their concerns felt across the universe, rumors and fears surround the "Burn Jita" campaign we can only guess what the future may hold, but it may be a good idea to run from it.

Now with 100% less Troll.

What have you done with Tom Gerard? Cool

Retiring the brand is one thing but this is more like invasion of the body snatchers

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Hmmm, this is not the Tom Gerard I recall, have those naughty Goons done something to him I wonder?

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Goons are the best thing to happen to EVE in its existence. Nobody else appreciates the purpose and freedom of the sandbox like they do.

No, not really.

The Goons are actually pretty honest about what they want to do with EVE Online - have fun at the expense of others and ruin the game as thoroughly as they can manage. And, you know, I don't like that goal one bit, but I can (sort of?) respect the honesty of flat-out stating that. Trying to pass it off as "Goons care about EVE!" is actually kind of disingenuous.

This is just you.

Some Goons made a little riot on the forum yesterday and probably got banned for spamming. I laughed a lot about it as I saw it happening. I thanked them in a single comment. Now my main got banned, too, for thanking Goons Roll. Is this the kind of EVE you want?

Goons are right as rain, right as Incursions, right as Falcon, and some people have fallen behind socially and need to do some catching up. When you cannot win and it makes you sad then start doing something about it. Just do not sit there and wait for the world to give it to you.

Until one day in the future someone or some group will stand up and challenge those in control. It's happened before with BoB, It's happened recently with the NC, and I'm not gonna be surprised if it happens to the Goons one day.

Am I actually posting in a real Tom Gerard thread? What on earth? I go away for a while and come back to find that he makes sense......

Nah, Tom is wrong, a bit off, a tad out of kilter as normal. The only tears that CCP are listening to right now are sub numbers, aka income, aka generating enough money via Eve to fund DUST and WoD. Especially after the WiS drama.

Tears of the Masses do get CCP's attention, but that's a reactive strategy. Methinks that CCP is trying to be proactive in making the game appealing to a larger base in order to grow the game and reduce churn. Meaning, they're making high-sec "dumber" not because of the tears, but because they want to attract and keep more first time players.

edit: This is not to imply that I think high-sec is getting "dumber." "Dumber" is a term to mean making it easier for newbies to get their feet wet, which invariably and inappropriately the HTFU crowd calls a dumbing down of the game.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

So CCP stopped the ice interdiction?

Oh wait no...

So they outlawed Hulkageddon right?

huh, wrong again...

So theyve decided theyre banning anyone involved in Burn Jita?

Theyre said theyre "doing nothing"

I think youre premise is flawed...

Goons have been around a long time. Just ask 'em. They may have altered the forum game, and the fanfest game, but the game game is still the same game game it was before they...did whatever it is they're supposed to have done.

Wickedly imaginative post, however. Things tend to grow within the imagination.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

Yup best thing Goons could do for the game is unsub in protest.
Not just cause it would get them out of the game either.

If you think about it, thats both the best and the worst thing they could do. They wanna break EVE? Unsub in protest over and over. On every issue. wont be too amazingly long before CCP is too scared to make changes in their own game.
