CCP give us an ability to make the launcher optional for Patching.

The EVE Launcher has given me and several other people nothing but problems ever since its inception. I have full administrator rights yet the Launcher Always fails to patch with "not enough rights" as a reason.

Your Launcher is nothing but an inconvenience to many players. I would like to not have to use it for anything. Give us the option to patch like the old ways.

No. Something on your setup is wrong and asking them to give up the numerous advantages of the launcher is silly.

EVE and/or the launcher is not going to work on everyone's setup. For instance some antivirus software feels free to lock up or change parts of your system making said system further from standard that they can't possibly test for.

BTW HTTP based downloading is going to way of the dodo. Modern content providing services provide far FAR better resiliency, info for tracking issues along the various backbone networks, and ability to manage bandwidth though various means.

That is why steam is wildly popular for content devs.

I an using Windows 7 64 Bit. Every major patch has failed to install. I have tried turn off the antivirus/spyware. Open the launcher with full rights. Nothing works, the same problem happening over and over.

Its real inconvenient when there is no real alternative way to patch without using the launcher, when the launcher doesn't work for you.

The only thing I can suggest is get edumatated on all the software on your computer and how it works especially the OS and Anti Malware. Something is going wrong there.

I have tried everything possible. I have turn off all everything I could think that could interfere with eve. I restarted my computer and the launcher several times.

The stupid launcher fails to work. The repair tool is broken as of now because the launcher screwed things up.

The launcher has always failed to patch when a major patch came. I have filed several bug reports, yet this problem still continues to exist.

Any late night devies wanna take a whack at it?

I think I've gotten to used to devs stepping in to personally help with these sorts of things :3

To the Op: maybe try using the forum search to find other topic around the release of the launcher to see if there were any similar thread back then cause I know the days after it came out devs were all over the forums getting feedback and helping with issues.

Actually, since a couple of weeks ago CCP have started to provide downloadable patches here.

They seem to be working, I was able to update my client using one of these yesterday.

Sadly the downloade speed is as slow as the launcher for me, CCP ever heard of p2p?

I had no problem with the launcher since the first day. Must be your system.

I can't speak for the others in this thread, but I'm usually connecting through a proxy at my university and have no control over those settings. I can use http, watch flash videos, use skype, ssh, rsync - I can even play Eve - I just can't use the launcher. So yeah, it's a problem on my end, but ...

Anyhow, thanks to the GMs for responding to the petitions asking to provide the downloadable patches. At first they were reluctant to bypass the launcher which has had a lot of work put into it. But eventually they showed some good responsiveness and flexibility in providing this work-around. Much appreciated.

What you could do is just turn off the UAC. :p

Fixed it for you. I do tech support and I cannot tell you how many people THINK they have full admin rights when they don't. You probably have some stupid program on your PC from browsing too much porn that has changed several reg keys without your knowledge causing you to lose your full admin rights.

Why would anybody expect them to do the extra work and make something optional that was designed specifically to perform a certain function? The launcher was made to facilitate updates. It is doing it's job. Just because your PC is broken doesn't mean the launcher is crap.
