How do you buy stocks?

Also, how do you use the mining planetary thing that is found in the captains quarters?

Can I also get some info about rigging, the wiki doesn't give good info on it in my opinion.

Just adding this on, how many ships does the average noob have? The reason I'm asking is because I have 7.

Adding, what are HACs, dec, facemelting, poping, and tackleing?

What exactly is Jitta? And what is a research slot?

He says "You've already had breakfast." I ask "But what about second breakfast?"

All right, one more wall of text, then I'm going to stop bumping this thread before it starts getting annoying and you can use the search bar to your upper right instead.

Aggression mechanics: when you jettison something, it goes into a can that floats in space. If someone takes something from it and they're not a member of your corporation, you're allowed to attack them without CONCORD coming to arrest you. Same if you take something from a wreck that they own. There should be a pop-up warning if you're about to take something you don't own, plus the container will be yellow (as opposed to white = it's yours, blue = it's anyone's).

Stocks: You don't buy them, shares exist solely as a way to apportion voting rights in a corporation or alliance, essentially used only when you need to get rid of a CEO who's gone AWOL for a few months and elect a new one. They're not a financial instrument in the sense or real-world stock.

Captain's Quarters: Don't bother, there's a "science and planets" option on the left-bar menu in space or in the hangar that works better than the awkward walking in station stuff. Most everyone I know has disabled captain's quarter's entirely, at this point int he game it's quite pointless.

Rigs: As a week-old or younger player, don't bother. When you do bother, just read the descriptions. The majority of rigs give a 10% bonus to something and create a 10% penalty for something else. The most frequently used rigs for new players are energy grid rigs, both because running low on power grid or capacitor is a common problem and because energy grid rigs have no drawback.

Ships: As a _really_ new player, you need about two ships: the ship you're flying, and the identical ship you'll replace it with when the ship you're flying blows up. As a moderately new player, you'll probably have an industrial flying around, a destroyer for salvaging, and ether a destroyer or a cruiser as your main mission ship, plus as many frigates as you bloody well please. There's no set number, and if you feel you're getting to have too many just sell some of them. (Right click, sell item)

HACs, dec, facemelting, poping, and tackleing: a type of ship you don't need to worry about yet, short for "war declaration" discussed previously, colloquialism for doing a lot of damage esp. with lasers, your ship or pod blowing up, and another way to say "pointing" or "scramming".

In the last case, people sometimes use "tackle" to refer to the process of flying a ship that's primarily dedicated to preventing a target from escaping and use pointing to refer to the specific module.

Jita: It's a system which is a high-sec trade hub, possibly the largest of the high-sec trade hub depending on the day of the week, the phase of the moon, and which runes the bones show inverted. Because there's no such thing as a "set price" for any item (well, exception: skill books for lower-tier skills are sold by NPCs and thus have mostly set prices) the majority of people sort of treat what something is selling for in Jita as a standard price by which they normalize their data to figure profit margins and so one.

Research and industry: These are the two things you can do with blueprints. Industry means taking the blueprint and making whatever the blueprint says it makes. You do this from a manufacturing station, which can only handle so many jobs (slots) at a time. Research involves a similar setup in terms of finding a station and putting the blueprint in a slot until the job is done, but the outcome is a new blueprint with different (better) characteristics than the one you put in. In terms of the lowest level of technology, it's as simple as sticking just the blueprint in and then getting basically the same thing back out with a shorter manufacture time (or efficiency). In terms of the higher level of technology (T2) you have to sort of throw a bunch of components in there and cross your fingers.

You can do manufacturing and research at either NPC stations, or player-owned starbases with a manufacturing/research module attached.

OK, I think that's about all I've got. Hopefully this thread will make up for the fiddling with the forums over the last year destroying a lot of the old reference material's accessibility.

HAC is short for "Heavy Assault Cruiser" officially it's "Heavy Assault Ship"

The frigate counterpart is the AF, short for "Assault Frigate", officially "Assault Ship"

As a preemptive: Logi is referring to logistics. Sometimes this refers to the logistics of bringing in fuel for a starbase or getting things to and from market hubs but it usually refers to Logistics ships liek the Guardian, Scimitar, Basilisk, and Onerios and these ships are you basic healer type class that you might see in other MMORPGs

There is a plantaey interaction tutorial on CCP's youtube page that should explain just about everything.

As for Captains Quarters as it stands right now it's just an alternative to the hanger view. Most people prefer the hanger view as it feels easier to navigate and Captains Quarters isn't very well optimized so it slows computers down. The eventual goal of Captain's Quarters is to give people a way of being able to see their character and walk around with it as up until the time CQ came out in Summer of 2011 we only ever had just the character picture we use in chat and on the forums here.

As CCP continues working on the project we will eventually be able to go out to the station and hang out with other people and maybe even be able to hang out with them in our own quarters, but in the mean time CQ doesn't add any extra functionality over the hanger view.

Trolling on a newbie forum isn't allowed so if this ever becomes a troll... But since the answers to questions are true this thread might have something in it for posterity even if we've had plenty of these acronyms & question -threads in the past.

In before lock.

Obvious troll, 0/10

If (though doubt it) genuine:

Train your google skills.

Stuff you ask here are either explained in the tutorials or easily searched on Google.

So stop wasting our time, which is better spent on New players that have genuine questions, as again you are asking obvious stuff that is easily searched on Google or the Forums.

---

And before you start but I'm in the newb corp / alliance, so is my 2 year old Alt as it never moved corporations, means you stay with the new player corp.

To all other players on the forum, stop feeding this stupid troll / player, he isn't worth your time. Let's go back to helping with the genuine questions.

I assure you this is not a troll.

I have to ask, is it worth mining even though I don't have a mining ship, or running missions.

My friend says that the economy sucks at the moment, but I wouldn't know, so I want to get some other opinions.

Also, is it normal for my launcher to take about 20 minutes to update?

He says "You've already had breakfast." I ask "But what about second breakfast?"

Then ask your friend all these questions which all can be found by using Google or the forums search engine.

He, as most of us, will be fed up by it very quickly. EVE isn't a hand held MMO, you have to figure out stuff YOURSELF and do some research. If you don't like that kind of gameplay, then EVE isn't the game for you.

Meaning, if you have a question (after some research) about how something works, EVE forums are a nice way to ask. But asking (IMO really stupid) things like what does Ganking means is just lazy as if you go to google and type in: EVE Online Ganking it will give you what it means. So does it with every single thing you asked so far (maybe excluding what types of corps there are around).

So again: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Glossary
Read it and you will know 99% of the terms in EVE

do what you find fun.

edit-- if you have a Bantam, Burst, Navitas, or Tormentor, then you have a mining frigate (they all have bonuses to mining yield). Upgrades would include the Osprey, Vexor, Scythe or Arbitrator (cruisers with bonuses to mining or drone mining yields), and then the ORE barges (skip the Procurer though).

Hallen Ambramotte wrote:

Economy is in a state of flux right now. They just removed 40% (estimated) of the sources of minerals today (drone alloys, and Meta0 trash loot), so there's a bit of speculation going on there... and it's driving the prices up on everything.

Depends on the day, phase of the moon, the chicken bones, your internet connection, and how big the patch actually is.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I have a question for the OP: do you ever sleep?

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Again, guys stop bumping this post.

He is a fail guys who doesn't know how to start a troll

The more we post the more we feed him.

The part of that your friend said that market is FUBAR gave you away. Why ask such stupid questions when you have a friend who plays. Or more likely, you don't have any friends and play EVE 23/7 as you have no life and though a troll makes your life happy.

Ganking: usually refers to suicide ganking, which is killing a ship in highsec before concord kills you

Scraming: this means being warp scrambled, meaning no warp.

War Decking: to declare war formally in game meaning you can legally attack players in highsec

DPS: damage per second

Plexes: these have many meaning in game
1 a plex is a 30 day game time card within the game, currently about 500mil isk, if used you get 30 more days of delicious eve
2 plex can refer to complexes which are sorta like dungeons for eve, usually not talked about though.

Also, what are the different types of corps?:

differnt corps? as in mining? mission running? PVP? Griefer? its just what they normally do...
if you mean mission wise?
security = combat missions, mining= mining, distribution = transportation

Fed up with it, reported as trolling. Not the best way to show the genuine new player game community how EVE is and works.

As for OP again, go annoy that imaginary friend you keep talking about.
