I have just started level 3 missions with my Drake, and im just wondering if Heavy Missile Lancher II are worth the 12 day wait
or would it be better to just go with Support Missile skills such as Rapid Launch or Missile Bombardment?

The tech 2 missile launchers are very good and most definitely worth the training time.

*FLAMES APPEAR* Evil Why you no post under the right forum!! Evil (end sarcasm)

Yes it's quite useful skill, is it required for lv3's no, but its useful, I personally bring up rapid launch up to 4 at least, mabey 5 since it's only a rank 2 skill, and warehead upgrades ot 3 or 4 than go with training HML spec to 3 or 4. More likely 3 will be good enough if your just doing lv3 missions in a drake and still have other skills you have to worry about.

Side benefit of T2 HML is that they are cheaper than the arbalest HML's from what I recall by a good margin to in the region I am in too. I believe the difference was 15mil per launcher and the T2 is far better. T2 missiles are also nice to use, but I doubt so much in lv3 missions mainly due to their price which will put a big dent in your isk/h.

Whip out EFT and make sure you've got the fitting skills to fly a T2 fit drake without more than 1 fitting mod (if that); if you can't I'd train support skills until you can.

Certainly if you plan on getting into a Tengu down the road, T2's are mandatory.

This is a valid point. T2 launchers are considerably harder on fitting than T1. Make sure you have AWU 4 planned along with the rest of your fitting skills to get the most out of them.

Well your support skills should be at 3 or 4 already? If you haven't trained missile support skills at all, then yes, spend 12 days on getting them up to 4 instead before training Heavy Missiles 5.

ya I'm going to get my Missile support skills to 4 before I get Heavy Missiles 5. why i don't already is I got most of my cap skills to 4 and some of my shield skills to 4 and the rest to 3, so what i'm seeing is i can tank them all day long and it takes me all day long to kill them :(

I was doing 3's with Malkuth launchers for a long time, I only changed to Tech2 when I started on 4's. I worked on all my tanking, and missile support skills first.

Once you can tank the missions, then you don't get any benefit from improving your tanking ability further. The benefit of training your tanking skills further will be that you are able to fit fewer tank mods and more that increase your effective DPS (target painters, rigor rigs etc.) This is why most "All level 5 skill" mission fits only have 4-slot tanks, or even 3-slot.

And of course increasing DPS gives you a tanking bonus in that dead rats do no damage.
