If memory serves correctly the Titan's Doomsday was changed from an AoE weapon to a one-shot, one-kill blast in the Winter 2009 expansion. We are two and a half years down the road. Has any nullsec empire tried to drop a large dread fleet on a fleet of supers? Ever? Or is the Doomsday just too intimidating?

Y-W in winter of 2010. PL lost 7 titans thanks to the Northern Coalition dropping their entire dread fleet pretty much right into optimals and just raping face.

Oops guess it was 3 titans...? Maybe some SDed I remember it being more (I was there, hands shaking, etc.)

That is very cool. It gives me hope at least. Dreads should be more then the occasional hot drop ambush.

Well dreads weren't all that useful until Crucible. Also some FW guys dropped one on a titan in ama a couple of weeks ago and pwned it and carriers real fast.

Seem to be making dreads more useful without over powering them against sub caps so far. They have a downside when in melt face mode after all.

You've clearly never been on the receiving end of a blaster Moros at range.

You clearly have never flow a Dread.

If you let a dread lock you (it takes a minute if you're in a cruiser) and track you (their tracking is pretty awful a cruiser can orbit a sieged dread at 25 km at 200 m/s and the dread will still not hit it). Then you're a bad pilot.

Thank you for asking this. I've been reading about Titan's one shooting ships and it has left me confused because I thought they were still aoe. Just never bothered to ask myself. That is an awesome change even if I never see a titan in my life (except for that one during the storyline at the start of FW).

No doomsdays in lowsec, or that could have gone sideways really, really fast.

^

40 dreads to 2 carriers and one titan. Think they dropped it in under 2-3 minutes (maybe less) if I remember the logs right.

The Amamake Titan kill was a suicide gank. And it was in low sec - where you can't use Doomsdays. Here's another low sec example:

Helicity Boson's Gang

Again - doomsday removed from the equation. Dreads should be a tool used against Titan's in large numbers. They are not. In two and a half years - not enough times by far. Dreads are frozen in place for five minutes (used to be ten), can't recieve cap or reps, and at 2.5 billion isk or so - won't show up to a battlefield where they can get one shotted. Cry

Word of the Day: Don't live like a coward.Cool

Titans are not as effective as they are meant to be given the whole hassle about ownership and cost, but given the current state of things, their stats are fairly reasonable.

It depends how many dreads you are talking about and how many titans they are dropping on. If it's a solo titan without enough carriers/supercarriers to rep it (or if its not tank fit) then dreads will kill the titan with no problems. If you're talking about 40 suicide dreads dropping on 40 titans, the dreads will get dunked on.

One or two months ago, goon & co dropped like 60-80 dreads on a Raiden titan that bumped out of rep range of his cap fleet. About 30-40 dreads got DDed off the bat, but the titan couldn't be repped as the remaining dreads and about another dozen supers/titans cyno'd in to successfully gank it.
