POS Questions

I am new to the industrial field and wanted to set up a POS to moon mine and some random production stuff.

I was looking to do it in Low sec for starters.

Can you even moon mine in lowsec?

If not I take it it would have to be Nul sec right?

Does moon mineing offer a lot of reward or not really? Would I be better off just sticking to production of mods and ships?

Thanks for the help!

Generally I would say if you're asking these questions you really shouldn't be starting a project this large, but as a member of test you may have the resources to see it through.

Yes you can mine in lowsec, but only in .3 and below.

Moon mining in nullsec is inadvisable unless it is in a well patrolled area firmly under your control. The logistics of running moon mining in hostile locations is a nightmare.

Moon mining profits can run from a token amount (evaporites, silicates), to enough to run a medium tower off (cadmium, mercury), to mind bogglingly valuable (dysprosium, technetium). Rule of thumb is that if a moon is worth having, its already taken. You can circumvent this by running a chain of mining and reaction POSs, combining relatively low value materials into marketable ones. For a while I was making about a billion isk a month after costs cranking out tungsten carbide in the ass end of lowsec.

Know what you're getting into. There will be people trying to attack your towers and shake you down, massive market fluctuations, and endless legwork. Nothing is free in eve, not even the free stuff. If you can deal with that, you might be able to make some nice profits off it.

Good luck!

Depends of the moon goo.
I would divide them into 4 categories (today's prices) :

Worthless : Titanium, Evaporite Deposites, Silicates, Cobalt, Tungsten, Hydrocarbons, Atmospheric Gases
Barely worth a small POS : Caesium, Chromium, Hafnium
Barely worth a medium POS : Scandium, Promethium, Vanadium, Platinum, Cadmium, Mercury, Thulium
PL already took them : Technetium, Neodymium, Dysprosium

You're in a nullsec alliance, why not build a nullsec POS or ask them for advice?

Makes you wonder why so many of those moons from the Barely worth category on up almost all have POS's on them.

Some are running reactions.
But I have seen large towers mining Cobalt, with nothing else (no labs, no reactions, not a staging point, no sc known inside). Some people are clueless.

Yes I've seen quite a few odd moons like that myself, makes you wonder!
I know the locations of quite a few of these POS's.
I figured Dotlan maps must be wrong, i'd better scan that and OPPS it's evaporate deposits just like Dotlan says with a large death star pos in a dead end system in .3 that has 4 people visit the system a day. Funny part is you go back there a year later and ...it's still there and it's a 2 member corp with no alliance.

By the way, using Dotlan maps in literally 1000's of moons, I've found a total of "one" error.
