Hello all

i have recently upgraded my hdd to an ssd and reinstalled eve. Now i am trying to make my ui as clean and as efficient for me as possible.
My overview is the only window that remains a mess, 5 tabs just don't seem enough however that is what i am stuck with. i run missions and mine and salvage. Can someone please give me an idea what tabs i should be using in a pve enviroment. i did follow the eve uni gyuide but that seems more aimed at pvp as does brother benthor,s.
any good pve related overview guides would be appreciated

Um ... have rats turned on.

It really depends on what kind of PvE you're doing and your personal preferences, I have atleast three different types of PvE overviews that I can think of off-hand.

Make the combat overview not have wrecks on it

My PvE setup:

tab 1: show all (is always fixed)

other 4 tabs are changed to suit my need:

tab 2: show all rats
tab 3: wrecks and cans
tab 4: gates (star gate, acc. gates) and LCO.
tab 5: Player ships (both friends and foes, to see who is on grid with me)

That's about all the stuff you need

Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

Nope just the NPC rats (the red flying crosses), station and planets I pick from the right click menu.

Generally you'll want your "rats" tab to show enemy players as well, and generally since gates are going to have the highest distance and you usually want to sort by range you can put them in another tab rather than wasting space on their own.

Basically I agree with you on the first three, but I'd tend to devote a tab to structures (since he's talking about PvE) and LCO instead of gates and LCO, stick gates in with wrecks/cans, and stick player ships in with 'rats. Plus if he's mining 'roids should get a tab (which also includes 'rats so he can see them).

While I _do_ have a separate "players/drones" tab it's pretty much exclusively for PvP, in PvE I've never encountered a time that I wanted to see other players that I didn't also want to see the mission NPCs.

You can have no more then 5 tabs open. You can store way more settings then just 5 and switch as needed when the time comes.

My PVE alt has

1 Travel tab
2 Mission tab
3 Wreck and can tab
4 Mining Tab
5 PI tab

never needed more then that for him.

thanks for all the replies, my last question on the overview window is this:- once i have created my own tabbed settings and saved them, where are they stored? they are not in the eve/overview folder on my pc

Quoting my guide :

"Copy this xml file into your C:\Users\username\Documents\EVE\Overview directory (location will vary by OS. If you can't find it, export your overview settings to a distinct file name like 'WTF_where_is_the_dir' and search your machine for that filename).
If there is no 'Overview' directory in \Documents\Eve just create it."

And acc.gates show up in the overview settings as "Warp Gates" right?
