Last time around it cost me about £600 for the whole shebang, but I was quite conservative with spending (cheapest hotel, left on Sunday morning, didn't drink very much, etc.). If you can afford to, budget for £1000 each and that should cover you for Wednesday to Monday + drinks and food and whatnot. Alcohol in general is quite expensive in Iceland, so be prepared for that if you plan drink a lot.

Icelanders are very nice people and they seem to all be very well spoken (even the petrol station attendant opposite the Hotel Cabin spoke three languages fluently), so I wouldn't worry about that at all.

Unlike America, most in Iceland speak 2 languages as in almost every other Euro country, English usually being the #2, so communication is not difficult at all.

Travel information is best found on your own through Google, and frankly, impossible to tell you what to expect price-wise for next year till the Hotel Discounts and the Event itself are arranged.

And what with their volcanoes lately, you need to check in a few months to see if the island itself is still there.


Also, ANY thread with the word FanFest in the title is going to be met with a bit of suspicion for the time being fyi.

I'm from Scotland, and like many of my countrymen, barely speak another language. It wasn't a problem. Seriously wasn't. I went into a bunch of different shops, restaurants and bars, and they all spoke English absolutely fine. Some had a stronger accent than others, but all were understandable. Most more so than some of the American tourists we have to put up with (No, you're not scottish, your ancestors might have been, but /you/ aren't. And it's not quaint, it's my home town. Shut up already.)

As for money, it will all depend on the conversion rates you're getting.

Take a look at Iceland Air for travel prices, I paid £356 for flight and 5 nights in a hotel (Cabin. It's tiny rooms, though the bed was comfortable. Next time I'll upgrade.)

I took about 13000 isk with me (Woo, I bought ISK with real money. The only way you can other than Plex. Who'd have thought Thomas Cook were RTMers ) along with a preloaded credit card, with about £200 on it. I came back with about £30 left. Obviously, it depends on how much you're eating and drinking. Fanfest, to date, has a great deal of drinking.

You'll be able to use your credit card just about anywhere. Including taxis (They prefer it, apparentely.)

I had a great time. I'm already planning on going back next year. Just waiting for them to start selling tickets, so I can arrange everything else.
