Hey folks,

Just decided to release an app I've created that has been in use for a couple months now. It is a tool to assist PvPers in finding gudfites.

It's called Gudfite Radar

(screenshots and walk-through located further down)

Here's what it can do for you:

Shows Low and Nullsec "PvP Hotspots" near your current Constellation, in order of ship kills. Hotspot information includes:

  • System name - click to set your in-game destination
  • System Sec Status
  • Constellation name
  • Number of Pod kills since last data refresh*
  • Number of Ship kills since last data refresh* with click-able intel to system killboards.
  • Number of faction kills if you are after PvE'ers.
  • Click-able map marker to open in-game map, centered on target system
  • "Clear Destination" button to remove any waypoints created
  • Shows current system information.

The Radar refreshes on it's own every 3 minutes for any updates, either kill-related or for your proximity.
Kill info is as new as possible, system resources taken into account*

*Caveats

Experience has shown that high-sec, dead end systems don't result in much information. This is not an app for carebears, nor for suicide gankers.

This app also does not function in w-space due to the logic used to determine which systems to show you.

Data contained within the Radar can be as fresh as 2 minutes, or as stale as 80 minutes. Keep that in mind when using this application.

CCP makes available the system data for jumps, ship kills, and pod kills one every hour or so. The Radar looks for updates three times an hour since there is some variance to the information release time.

Best case scenario: Game time is 16:00. In the next system a PvP fight just ended. At 16:02 CCP makes the fresh kill data availabe. At 16:03 the Radar downloads it and integrates it. That kill is only 3 minutes old and is available information via the Radar

Worst case scenario: Game time is 16:00 and CCP just released the kill data 5 minutes ago. In the next system a fight just ended. The Radar checks for new data every 20 minutes, but CCP doesn't make new data available until 16:55. At 17:10 the Radar comes across the new data and incorporates it. Total time since that kill happened and Radar data was available - 70 minutes

Knowing this, it's a good idea to use the Map Marker to filter out old data. Use the marker to pull up the in-game map. It will automatically center the map on the target system. Check CCPs live stats on that system for ship kills.

Access is based on a subscription model - 1 week free trial, 5M ISK for 30 days. This is an introductory offer that will be grandfathered if necessary.

There are a couple features I still plan to implement - user-modifiable "range" and user-modifiable sorting (jumps, kills, faction kills). I work on this in between a few other projects, so don't take this as a promise. I'll get to it when I can, if I can.

Sorry I can't be around for a bit after this post to approve trial requests, but I should be back in-game in an hour or two.

Hope you all enjoy it. Feedback would also be appreciated.

First week is ON ME Big smile

Doesn't the map already show all this information with filters? And dotlan has all of it other than the waypoint setting too.

Why exactly would people want to pay for your service over using the free tools already available? I'm just trying to figure out if there's any amazing value hidden in here that I'm missing.

So is the offer of the free week-long introduction pointless? Really? I'm going to explain something to you when you could just experience it...

But yes. There are multiple tools which do a variety of these things, none of which are designed for this specific purpose. I'm not saying I am the end-all be-all programmer (or PvPer), but this was intentionally designed.

Want to sit in dock and plan where you're going to go w/ dotan? Be my guest.

Wanna be in map view instead of flying? Ok.

And how many clicks with the already-available tools would it take to find out who's behind all those kills your flying toward? Well, here, just one. A single left mouse click. Copy and paste can suck it.

Is there something else out there that filters for hotspot PvP systems in your proximity, as you travel, with your view unobstructed?

In short, Gudfite was designed to be a small browser footprint to be up and running WHILE you're on the go Blink

For those of you coming across this today, I'm online now (as of 14:13 Eve Time) for those of you who wish near-immediate activation.

Just give me a few minutes to catch the incoming EveMail requests and I'll get you up ASAP with a confirmation EveMail stating as such.

I'm also monitoring the Apps public channel (Gudfite) if anyone has any questions or points of discussion.

Should be on for a few hours at least.

I can see from the views, and subscriptions that people are doubting the functionlality of this app. I'm going to state now that I am not a pro PvP'er. Actually quite the opposite, I'm just trying to learn. That being said, this app has been most usful to me in that I can pull it up, see how many kills are in the systems near me, I can then pull up said kills, to see maybe what kind of ships are fighting, are they solo or fleet, things like that. After I've done my research, and I think there is a possibility I can find a good fight there, all I need do, is click on the system name, and bam! destination set. While I'm flying to my destination, the app will also update to reflect any systems that are now in range of the radar that weren't before. Sure you can do all of this (short of it auto-detecting your system, and pulling up ONLY the systems nearby WITH kills) at other sites, but not with the ease and simplicity of this app. Trying to use other sites to do all of this is kind of a hassle. I guess what I'm getting at is it's a lot more useful than it sounds, at least run the free trial before you start bashing. I'm not disappointed.

Sounds interesting. It's explained pretty well what the app does, but some screenshots would be nice.

I was thinking about that last night. I'll get some up when I get a chance later on tonight... Maybe I can find some time to put up a tutorial video a well since there's little to no instructions on use. Most programmers are horrible at documentation What?

Screenshot 1 - full screen gameplay, browser located bottom left of screen

Screenshot 2 - cropped browser only

I know much of this is covered in the first post, but here it is with visual context (second screenshot). So let's have a bit of a text walk-through, just in case I don't get a video up anytime soon:

Starting from the top:

GudFite Radar Title - in the older version, clicking this would refresh page. It is currently not implemented in this version. It is on the things-to-do list. For use when just jumping into a new system if you absolutely need an update. Usually not necessary, hence it's lack of implementation.

"Join us in public channel Gudfite" - clicking the channel name will open up the public chat channel. When I'm on, I'm monitoring it. Feel free to ask any questions, give any suggestions, poke me in the ribs to get your trial going because I was watching hulu and didn't see the "NEW MAIL" popup (you know who you are!), etc.

Stastistics (Range, Constellations, Systems, Age):
Range is how many "constellation hops" the radar will scan. Default is 1, meaning it scans your current constellation plus each adjacent constellation. A user-configurable range is on the thing-to-do list. A selectable range from 0-3 is planned.

Also use the "Clear Waypoint" button to remove any destinations you may set.

The "Constellations" value shows how many constellations fall within range.

The "Systems" value show how many systems are contained withing the constellations that fall into range.

The "Age" value shows how old the CCP exported kill data is in minutes. They seem to export data every 59 minutes. The app checks every 20. This age should never be greater than 79.

Following this information is the info about your current system. As you can see, I'm in Bei, a 0.6 security system. It is in the Barvigrard Constellation located in the Metropolis Region. In the last CCP data export, there where 0 ship kills, and 0 pod kills in this system.

Next are the surrounding system stats, the whole reason for the creation. This is the area where the TOP 20 Systems with the most kills are listed. Those systems are based upon your location and range above.

System Results are in the grey rounded boxes:

  • The "Top Kill System" is Hagilur. By clicking the system name, your in-game destination is set.
  • Security (appropriately color-indicated), constellation, and region name follow.
  • System Jumps: Hagilur is one jump away. Clicking this also sets your destination
  • 11 Ship Kills: Ship kills in system. Click on this to open a SYSTEM Killboard to gather more intel, such as who is doing the killing, if more than one are they in the same corp and making kills in a small gang, what ships are being used, etc.
  • Small White Icon between ship kills and pod kills will open the in-game map centered on this system. Use this to get up to the minute info on number of kills and pods - as a cross reference to the CCP exported data. Remember, the CCP export data could be up to 80 minutes old.
  • Pod Kills are listed. Make your engagement determination based upon how far the Capsuleers take the fight. You will already have seen this information in the system killboard, but it's listed here as quick-glance reference if you haven't started viewing killboards yet.
  • Faction kills are listed as well, in case you're looking for mission runners.

And remember, all of this updates every 3 minutes while you're on the move.

It really is all very simple, and somewhat elegant. A very handy interface that puts a lot of intel at your fingertips all in a small footprint.

Thank you, Death ToU, for spurring this. Your 30 day free trial has started Blink

Just implemented a user-adjustable range. Here's how it works:

  • Range 0: Show information about all systems in current constellation, no matter the security status.
  • Range 1: Show info about all lowsec and nullsec systems in current constellation AND adjacent constellations.
  • Range 2: Show the above, plus the constellations adjacent to Range 1 - in essence all lowsec and nullsec systems within 2 "constellation hops".

For example, from Hek with a range of 2, the Radar is scanning 144 systems... giving kills, distance, podkills, and faction kills from low- and null-sec systems within that pool of systems.

These values are saved on a per-user basis, so what you left it at will be what you start with next time.

Next up on the thing-to-do list will be user adjustable sorting: order the results by kills, distance from your current location, or faction kills. Any other user-requested sorting could be implemented as well (drop suggestions here). Those are just the obvious sorting targets for me.

Another quick update:

Seeing that it not all folks are in-game on a daily basis, I've modified the signup so that immediate access is granted. The previous method needed me to access a computer to manually update the subscriber list.

No more waiting for me to get home to a computer (or attempt a welcome letter on my phone) to get started.

You're here now and in the mood? Try it out. No delays in starting up.

You'll still get an official "welcome evemail" when I get to a computer, as well as a notice within 72 hours of expiration.

Thanks for the support so far, guys :)

Quick update on Jita Burns (screenshot)

950 Ship kills in last export as of 06:16 Eve
103 Pod kills ...

and a total of 45 kills in the other systems within the Kimotoro constellation....

BTW, watch out in Urlen if you're on your way - they've had 21 kills Blink

Another quick feature update:

Results can be sorted now one of three ways:

  1. Ship kills - highest number of kills up top
  2. Faction kills - same as above
  3. Jumps - lists the closest systems up top

As with the range setting, these are saved on a per-user basis. They will stay the way you leave them.

I appreciate the kind words and feedback so far. Keep the feedback and suggestions coming!

And just to reiterate, NO waiting to try it out!

The subscription is per character. CCP does not allow access to the username of the characters, only the name of the individual character. Hands-tied situation.

However if your characters are out supporting each other, it's pointless to have two subscriptions to the app.

If they are members of the same corp, I have been toying with the idea of corp discounts...
