Flashing Red

The other day I was in a DED 3 complex and I was finishing up the 3rd room when someone came into the plex flashing red. He didn't appear to be doing anything but following me around. When I moved to the 4th room he followed me there also. He even killed a few of the pirates while I was working the room. As I started salvaging the room he kept right next to me the whole time. Any speculation on what he was doing? And why he was flashing red. He never said anything but I guess in retrospect I could have asked him what he wanted.

He took some loot out of your wrecks and surely hoped you'd pwn him, I'd say.

This. It was a tarp waiting for you to shoot him. If you did, he would have come back in another ship and committed acts of violence upon your mission ship.

I assume it would have been a bad idea to engage him then. Me being in a PVE fit Vexor and I'm guessing the Gila he was in was PVP fit.

Oh he was already in a Gila! Yeah, a Gila will take a Vexor on with its eyes closed any day of the week, even in PvP fits. I assumed he was in a vulnerable-looking ship trying to bait you to shoot him, then he would come back in a Gila, Cynabal, Hurricane, or whatever.

Do not shoot people in hisec unless you have a very good reason to, or things may go sideways very fast.

Correction: A gila with a _PvP_ fit will take a _PvE_ Vexor any day of the week. With a PvP fit a Vexor and a Gila could actually pretty easily be almost on par, depending on the specific fits, since the drone bonuses more or less cancel out. A blaster Vex with good propulsion management, for instance, can eat the lunch of a decent number of T2 ships if the pilot didn't see it coming.

But, yes, don't shoot anyone that's flashing red (by default, you can change the color and flashing in your interface options) unless you're prepared and willing for a fight that you could easily lose.

Thx for the advise guys. BTW mine was a Navy Vex but that doesn't even matter since I was PVE fit.

Reason I said it with so certainty is that Gila has Berserkers and a Drake-like tank. I'd be impressed if a Vexor could take that on.

You have got to be kidding me. A droneboat with a battlecruiser-level tank and a full flight of heavy drones is going to **** on a droneboat with a cruiser-level tank and only a flight of mediums. A Vexor is not going to be killing any t2 ships save for maybe frigs and dessies (not to say that the Vexor isn't awesome, but it is still a t1 cruiser).
