A short EVE story I did years ago...

A few years ago, I decided to just open up a word document and just try to do a little story based on an incident that happened to me where this happened

http://www.wearrsoyarr.com/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=29646 (old killboard)

The Establishment was barely 2-3 weeks old at the time and of many events I had in the game up to that point, it was a very memorable one for me. You can tell its old simply because Yulai is mentioned as the trade hub not Jita =P

I've sat on this story for years, but I recently showed it to a couple of authors who both said it was good and encouraged me to do more. So I've decided to post this to a wider audience to really see if there is truth to this. I would appreciate any and all critique you may have! Enjoy:

Its funny how ones perception of home changes, Angel mused. After calling many regions and systems ‘home’, this should be nothing different than to all those other times we moved ‘home’. Yet there was something a little different about the Providence region. Angel couldn’t quite place his finger on it, but it was there. It had its own unique charm. There was plenty of traffic, many opportunities to be had and no one really claimed the space as theirs, though the Coalition of Empires had recently changed that. He wondered idly if the CoE even had any half-decent fighters amongst them. If so they were few and far between. He looked forward to finding out.

Lately things had been rather depressing. The events of the previous weeks still remained strong in his mind. Leaving Shinra, was one of the hardest things he had done. But he did, and with his dedicated wingman Demundus, they created their own little corp. Finally something he could call his, finally he could make a difference his way... at least that had been the plan. It was indeed proving to be harder doing what he was used to on his own. No-one was your friend, its was everyone for himself out here in the coldness of 0.0 space. Before, he had the luxury of having many allies and friends, but now was different. It was a thrilling experience, but also harmful in terms of money making in his opinion… always some pesky pirate fleet running around spoiling his profiteering. This past two weeks had proven more costly than profitable to him and it was depressing… the current situation didn’t seem like it was going to fix those figures any time soon either.

All of this ran through Angel’s head as his 12th Deimos-Class Heavy Assault Cruiser, the ECS Abbey XII was cloaked in the middle of a rather large Dirty Deeds Corporation battlefleet.

It had been his own fault for not getting proper information on what was in the next system. He cursed Loriena for being away at this critical time. He was unable to use his usual cloaking techniques to get out of the fleet due to a timing failure on the cloak and now he was stuck.

DDC Frigates zipped about in an array of different orbital patterns around the Stargate, looking for his cloaked ship. Some of the other support ships had launched their attack drones to aid in the search. They were passing far too close for his liking. He assimilated the data being fed to him inside his gooey Capsule, watching closely to see if any of the Frigates were likely to pass the two kilometre threshold of the cloak. If they passed it, it would deactivate his cloak and things would just go from bad to worse. He desperately tried to manoeuvre the ship towards jump range of the gate, but the cloaks affect on engine speeds was not helping the situation.

Damn that girl, never here when you need her! He remembered his last conversation with his little sister. She had been excitedly telling him that she had just bought a new skillpack for her Helios training. She was becoming an excellent Covert Operations pilot and it made him proud. She was a little brat though which made him want to shove her out an airlock sometimes.
“Once I’m done with this for a few weeks, I can drop our scan times on deadspace ships by half!” said Loriena over the comm.
“Nice going. Are you coming out tonight? We really need to score a hit before we run out of money.” Angel replied.
“Erm… yeah… well you see I needed to go to Yulai to pick up this skill and so I made a head start this morning and I’m… sort of already in the center of Empire space right now.”
“Yulai!? That’s halfway across the bloody galaxy! What’s wrong with getting it at Emrayur? And besides that, I really need your help tonight if we’re to get our of the red”
“They had much better prices in Yulai! Look, I’m sorry, I just thought I’d be more useful if I get this over with now rather than putting it off. And you’re more than capable of looking after yourself I’m sure.” She smiled” Look I’ll make it up to you when I get back, I’ll go hunting ghost ships and bring back their treasures ok?”
Angel sighed “Ok, just get back here as soon as you can. Demundus won’t be back for a few days yet. Safe travels kid.”
“Bye!”

A warning flashed into his mind, one of the Frigates was closing fast on his position. Angel quickly tried to adjust the course of the Abbey XII to avoid the path of the Frigate, but knew it was an effort in futility, in about three seconds he would be exposed to the DDC fleet and he was seven kilometres from jump range. Angel thought he might have a chance if he punched his microwarp drive and repair systems to max and just made a run for it. He would find out soon enough.

The Frigate crossed the threshold, the cloaking systems deactivated and instantly his ship became visible to the fifteen or so Battleship fleet hugging the stargate. Angel punched his systems to maximum levels and made his break for the gate. Within a second or two of him being decloaked, several warning signals came lighting up many of the enemy ships on his tactical display. Within another mere second of the enemy fleet targeting him, they opened fire.

The cruiser was rocked violently with fire from lasers, railguns and missiles alike, the shields gone in an instant, the toughened armour platings peeling away like dry skin. The repair systems were fighting a hopeless battle, within the first 5 seconds of decloaking, the Abbey XII had lost almost two thirds of its armour platings, with hull breaches now appearing all over the bow of the ship. He was two kilometres from jumping out to safety.

More warning signals were received, indicating his Warp Core was being scrambled on a ridiculous level and the ship was being encased in the familiar tendrils of several stasis webifiers from the surrounding swarms of Frigates.
The next volley of fire tore the ship apart. What was left of the armour simply vapourised under the intense fire, taking the hull underneath with it too. A missile managed to slam its way home to the power core systems of the ship, and it finally exploded in a glorious blue flame, with debris bouncing of the shields of the nearby Frigates.

He had always hated Capsules, being surrounded in this goo was just never quite right he thought. But without it, he couldn’t make his living like he did. Now with nothing but the Capsules thin shell to protect him, he tried to activate its warp systems to get out of danger. He was rather frustrated when the Pod’s computer reported that the Capsule was warp scrambled. Fast little *******, he thought bitterly as he now realised he was about to wake up in a random part of the Galaxy, minus several hundred million. Getting new implants and clones was more of a pain than getting new ships.

Yes the Providence region did have its charms, he thought. He bitterly hated DDC and no more so than now. Maybe I stay here for vengeance, he thought. DeMundus was not going to like this when he came back from his trip. The pod rocked suddenly, a searing flash of light hit Angel’s eyes, his last thought cursing his luck… he had been two hundred meters of jumping out… and then nothing.
