Seeing as giving players assets, isk, or non-vanity items is out of the question. I thought, what the hell why not award aurum? Say for every bot a player "properly" reports. AKA, they aren't going around jita local spamming buttons. Then said player will receive something around 100 aurum when that bot is caught.

This would serve two functions.
1. It boosts player interest in bot hunting.
2. You can get yo self some styling boots gurl! "no but seriously... you can't see them".

I figured I would toss this idea out here. If you make it profitable to hunt them, than people will do it. Also before anyone starts going on about how this will ruin the economy with people selling monocles. Imagine how quickly the price for NEX items would drop in isk?

I am certain, and by that I mean without a doubt, that there are flaws in this idea. So please drop your two isk in and let me know how you think this could work. I decided to propose the use of aurum because of its link to vanity items. Just a side note i thought i should add.

Another option is to award decorations for finding a certain amount of bots. Perhaps you could choose or both would be awarded? Could call it an award for finding rogue terrorist drones or something.

It would be nice to get some type of recognition or something for it, I agree. Bots should be wiped from the face of the earth. Or New Eden...whatever. C'mon CCP.

Let`s see... 100 AUR x 50 bots (you can easily find that many in just a couple of hours) = 5,000 AUR. Damn that`s actually quite a nice payout!

The start of a new profession: CCP Sanctioned Bot Hunter. Lol

Monacles for everyone!

Well.. that would increase the amount of bot reports that CCP has to look into tenfold. Have you ever seen a local precinct when it offers a reward for, say, a missing person?

You get people calling in and saying that aliens have abducted said person. And i'm not talking about people who just call in to troll because those will troll wether you offer a reward or not. But the people who actually believes that aliens abducted that person.

People will start seeing bots everywhere.

And if people blatantly abuse the feature than they to get punished for doing so.

I agree with this comment, but I would also imagine that the increased workload in the short-term would pay off long-term.

If bots are actively getting hunted and nailed hard and fast, how many would start getting rather nervous? Though in my mind, it would really only kill off casual bots. Serious botters just recycle/purchase new chars.

And when your non-botting petition response times increase tenfold "in the short term" we won't hear you whining in the forums about how CCP doesn't care that you lost a Rifter because of lag/sunspots/Falcon?

Isn't botting inquiries handled by a team? Or is it all GM's? Also I would imagine they wouldn't devote all their time on one specific petition type. Though I can see how it would make a stack of papers so to speak. Perhaps this idea follows a get rich quick scheme to much. If anyone can think of another means to increase interest in hunting bots. Other than the sheer fact that they inflate everything and allow RMT.

I'd settle for CCP banning bots...killed ~11 botting tengus the other day around immensea. Went there today same bots all back at it again. I reported them all again but I know nothing will happen.

wouldent take long untill the likes of Goon, Test or PL start spamming it with names of people they dislike.

Then the Russians will catch on and write a script and distribute it amongst their DDOS servers and have it spam the crap out of the bot report form too - as it would threaten their monthly income

They would only ever bother with this much effort if CCP ACTUALY ADHERED TO ITS OWN ELUA/T&C and stopped looking the other way when it comes to botting/RMT.

Assumptions are wonderful things...

CCP, I found some people who bot. Everyone posting in here.. except for me of course.

The next step of course is to make an account to bot with so you can report your own account and get the reward from CCP.
YAY!!!

Wait, they might be able to tell that it's your account. Hmmmm.. You'll have to use someone elses computer.

So you are saying that 100 aurum is worth a plex, or 14.99, that much set up, and planning? I can definitely see your logic now...

We've seen many times how players looking for bots suddenly think everyone is one. Offering rewards would only further clog the system with false accusations.

For CCP to catch bots on mass they need to modify how they do it. Bot reporting is a good start but they need to start looking at looking at stuff like WOW did, start off with writing a piece of software that looks for code injections. Next you need to modify the acts that are botted. Such a mining, missioning and ratting. These are botted so easily due to the static nature of the targets and how things act in eve.

When you can have a static setup and your overview never moves, and everything is always in the same location it is easy to use mouse macro program as a basic bot.

The only way CCP will eliminate bots is by buying the bot software themselves as its released reverse engineering it and seeing how they are handling the bots. Until this happens you will always see bots.

The reward for bot hunting is a idea that has merit but could easily be abused.

Dynamic events make boting harder due to the random nature of events as well. If things are more random the bots have more variable to attend to making it harder for them to do their job efficiently. The static nature of this game lends itself to botting very well.

I'm sorry if this comes off as me being rude, even an ********. But you do realize that you can get 3500 aurum for a plex right? Why would someone choose to waste 3400 aurum if they were in it for the aurum? This is where I fail to see your logic.

The argument that ‘it would increase CCP’s workload’ is ridiculous.

How many appeals for witnesses have you seen on TV after a major crime?

How many times have you seen the same detective complain that there were too many witnesses?

As for a slow down in response to other petitions I expect there will be some priorotisation.
Would you rather your local police spent their time catching thieves or doing paperwork?

I would be interested to know how long it takes to verify a bot though. Surely it’s not a difficult thing to do. I assume there will be activity logs somewhere.
