I'm wondering what peoples thoughts on the Nidhoggur are now that it got a buff to RR. I live in a C5 and would mostly using it for logistics in our sleeper sites and possibly PVP should we get invaded. Everyone I fly with loves the archon but I've wanted to fly a Nid ever since my early days when I first found it in the market. Our system has the system wide effects for armor resistance bonuses so whatever carrier I get will be armor tanking. Is there any love for this ship out there now or should I just forget about it and get a Archon?

I desperately want to like the Nidhoggur, but its got kinda crappy fittings (still) and the Archon's local tank bonus is extremely powerful. I have Minnie Carrier 5 and I'm busy training up the Amarr (and eventually the Archon, I'm sure).

But but but... It's just sooooo damm ugly! It's like they ran out of isk and couldn't afford to put the top deck on it and the mile long engines what's up with them. Really how can a ship sport such a massive armor tank when you can see its insides? Take the abaddon for example it just looks like a solid ship. I know I shouldn't care about the looks of a ship but for the training time involved and Isk cost it is just really bugging me lol.

The Nid is superior for providing triage to small gangs or BS gangs where you aren't going to get your local tank tested to the extremes. The problem it has is surviving its triage cycle intact on local reps, which is where the Archon has it down in spades. I would say that for PVE situations, your Nidhoggur will be highly valuable. However, if you get into a serious PVP situation, it's going to be a lot squishier than an Archon.

That said...if you need to rep your POS, the Nidhoggur is the ship!

Train an archon.
No joke i wouldnt even consider any other carrier for WHs these days if you have the choice.
(Chimera for pulsars is the obvious exception.)

Nid is probably my least liked carrier. (Yeah i know, thanny isnt good either)
It has junk cap, fitting issues and horrible tank.
It can be used for triage supporting BS/T3 fleets for running sites but archon still does in way better.

Long term voice of reason,

Current Archon Trends:
1. Archon stands supreme as the best carrier for everything except DPS.
2. More archons are appearing every day, and those skilled in other races' carriers are cross training into archons.
3. This has been an established fact for a long time.

Role analysis:
1. Archon- Triage King/local rep king/decent RR
2. Thanatos- DPS king
3. Nid- RR king
4. Chimera- Shield tank king

Looking at the role analysis, and the concepts of warefare in eve, the relatively stationary combat of cap ships would capitalize on armor tanks. Thus removing the Chimera as a viable option (shield is meant for speed). Then accept the fact the thanatos excels exclusively in DPS, it removes it from anything except a hot drop without the requirement to commit. Couple the previous with the fitting issues of the NID, and that leaves only one viable carrier option for the time investment to train. On top of that you get all the Amarr BS's to boot... where is the down side?

Conclusion:

Shield Nid works, but if you don't choose an Archon in a Wolf-Rayet, you're madder than mad Jack McMad.

The Nid is one of the best looking ships in the game. It is also still a carrier, it may not be the hardest but it is still a force to be reconed with and if and when i can fly one, i will... before any of the others

Think of it like this... you turn up to a cap op and all the the other ships are archon's, they look at you a bit weird and some douches giggle in the back ground, then you open up comms your surounded by half naked women

also you will be primary... the cool kids are primary..
