Eve Dark Ages TT Campaign

I've been giving off and on thought to a Dark Ages New Eden table top campaign with a small cabal of eve players who want me to run a table top campaign of some variety.

I'm presently looking for suggestions with an eye to npc characters & concepts. Particularly character names (re:not Call Signs) & motivations. Small bit parts to big players. Who are they? Goals, motivations & quirks? The same for locations / ships. What are some great locations in your mind, - for sci-fi / space-born story telling?

As far as peoples/races I'm very open to suggestions and related considerations. They'll likely be known ancient races or entirely fictional / forgotten / explicitly earth derived. However all options exist on the table at this point.

While various forms of ancient artifacts scatter Eve, the cosmos constellation and elsewhere, the dark ages time period just after the collapse of the Eve gate seems to be a very open New Eden time period. Very little canon to break overly much by the actions of players. Off hand if the campaign includes space flight there seems to be the opportunity for a gradual inevitable loss of the ability.

Story elements featuring scarcity of technological resources & knowledge. Living in an era of misunderstood technology that no longer fully functions. Perhaps best & worst of all - the odds that the actions of the players will have little to no impact on modern day Eve as typical eve players know it.

As far as ambiance i'm looking at borrowing from Blade Runner, Alien, Sunshine, etc. other cold/sci-fi genre films for suggestions and / or plot hook elements.

In terms of scale i'm considering bite sized episodic game play within larger time frames and occasional time period jumps permitting easy player character death, family lineages, etc.

PS. CCP, a White Wolf developed Table Top open ended supplement using the NWoD dice mechanics for this time period would be fantastic.

Sounds fun. Would this be a pen & paper RP campaign, or by tabletop to you mean miniatures?

If I where you I'd just set it in New Eden a few years before the emergence of capsuleers. That way you have the rich backstory of eve to draw on. Also you can have them routing around for 1st and 2nd empire technology. Remember the amarr are fairly ancient and have been around since the end of the fall of the 2nd empire and the wiped out one of the lost races the takmahl. You have the 3 other lost races the Yan Jung, Sleepers (who are actually a jove off shoot) and the Talocan.

Maybe the players are a group of Servant sisters of eve explorers. (Give a nod to nova foxs star-ship designs as their base craft). To us, players of eve, the pirate factions aren't really that scary or much of a threat. But Blood raiders could be portrayed as the reavers from serenity and sansha are almost borg like (zombie drones).

Good luck anyway. Im in my third year of a vampire game thats had its up and down.

There is this more recent time period to work with too, I'll certainly give it some thought.

What drew me to the very early period following the recent closure of the Eve-gate is that it features the notion of unavoidable loss, futility... In the shadows of technology that no longer functions, or is only partially understood. If at all. The notion of a crumbling technological empire of sorts. Ignorance, fear, contempt...playing with these elements to craft story.

With more of a blank slate the player characters can become legendary, important and for a while shape the setting as a whole. Even if yes, the fate of what they create will be lost or forgotten.

Alternately In a more recent setting, just before the time of capsuleers, - the actions of the player characters become somewhat limited in potential, at least on initial consideration.

I think there is an opportunity here.

You could have the players characters embark on a series of events that ultimately leads to the creation of capsuleer technology.

II think I may to that will my gaming group now lol, sounds awesome.
