On a related note I'm just going to say that the new introduction missions are ********.

They give you a gun and a shield booster/armor repper and tell you to equip them. The gun goes on just fine, the tank mod doesn't. You don't have the skill to equip the tank mod, and even if they gave you the skillbook you don't have the prereqs to equip it, nor the money to buy the skillbook.

Great job there guys.

I have to agree. I did a buddy account just to try out the new player experience. I was lost, gave up on the idea, transferred some isk. screwed up by picking the wrong ship to focus on, went completely unfocused, passive, active, blasters drones and rockets that need 4's on fitting skills to fit. buddy is about up and toon is just starting to shape up.

Should have bought a rifter.

I've done similar things and alot of the elitist, know it all's really need to run a trial account just to see how absolutely unattractive EVE is to anyone who hasn't been here for 5 years.

It's very simple.

People have a problem to identify themselves as space-ship/capsule.

CCP seems to be lacking in the marketing department. Also, EVE really isn't an "easy" game to pick up and advance in. Training is so time consuming that it really sets a mark between noob and elite.

That's a joke, right? Have you read the SWTOR or WoW general forum recently?

No. Due to how the skill system and equipment bonuses work, you can always catch up — in fact, it's almost unavoidable — to the point where it's largely an inapplicable concept to EVE.

There is only one thing you can't catch up to is total SP, but as luck would have it, total SP is an almost completely meaningless stat: all it does is decide how much your clone costs.

The problem is that people assume that SP works like XP like in most other games: that those XP SP give you your level, and that a higher level is automatically and mechanically unbeatable by lower levels. Those are just preconceptions and false perceptions — the reality is actually almost the exact opposite.

Yes but Tippia, once the newbs realize how it looks, all your calculations mean nothing cause to THEM it seems like you cant catch up ever so they leave.

Yes, its stupid, but I dont think theres a way to pre-empt stupidity

I have no idea where people get that wow is easy, and even more that eve is not.

There are a lot of highly intelligent people that play(ed) wow. To be good, and truly know your class is not easy.

Do not think for one minute that you are superior for playing this game.

I've read more simple minded comments in these forums than I've ever read on blizzards.

My first months playing WOW Dec 2004 have never been matched by any game and probably never will.

You truly have no clue.

BTW, I did a trial of this game around Oct 2005, and didn't subscribe. Not real impressed this time either. This is the most do nothing game I've ever played, which is why I preordered my Diablo today.

This is suppose to be a pvp game, but all I see is ganks, players taking advantage of the weak, and whatever you call the rest of it.

Yes, someone taking out a mining barge is very impressive, and I've actually seen someone posting one in local like they accomplished something. I just thought to myself, how sad is that.

I don't care what you think, if you ever think at all.

Have a buddy who would LOVE this game and he knows it...thats the problem.

The last time I tried to force EVE on him he told me the last thing he needed was an MMO he loved. It would be all he would do and probably cost him a job or wife. The wife he could live without...the job...not so much.

This is the reason many of my friends turn down EVE- they are afraid they can't handle the addiction.

I'm happy that I can control it. Right? I mean I can quit any time should I want to. I can prove it to you- I won't log in for the next 10 hours!

This is my second try at EVE, so far so good. First time a friend wanted me to come try it out, I was playing freelancer at the time(fun game btw). I figured it would be more like that but I found it very slow and I didn't like the lack of direct flight control so I quit the first time. Lack of info for a new player also wasn't helpful. But this time around I just spent a lot of time reading and getting used to ship control and it's been more enjoyable. Though I still think it would be cool to have freelancers combat system in EVE.

If you're not enjoying it, you don't have to do it.

Problem is, most perspective players in the beginning get so many of those "If you're not enjoying it, you don't have to do it." that they never make it to the paid sub.

Morpheus Mishima wrote:

Not really, in every other MMO you start in rags and wooden sword and are sent to whack boar gullets.

What happens is that in the other MMOs you get 2 kinds of immediate feedback:

1) Your character tangibly improves and in a reasonable amount of time.

2) Your skill heavily affects your character performance.

Point 1 is the most common. In EvE it's true (and most ignore it) that within 2 weeks you can play a decisive PvP role as tackler but you are still a rookie in the lowest ship. After 1 month you are in a cruiser with some medium skills, once again it's not much to look at. In other MMOs you are max level within those 2 weeks or you don't even really level up at all since you get the so called "stats boost" that raise some of your stats when you are apprenticed / teamed up (varies by game) so that you are quicker ready to join a group.
The vast majority of players are of the instant gratification type and won't stand EvE's long haul, even if they'd be proficient PvPers.

Point 2 applies to PvP games (and much less to WoW and similar), as in proper PvP games you easily get competitive PvP gear, often such gear is purposedly levelled to a standard for everybody, because the PvP game basics are about everyone competing on their skills, not their gear or stats.
In this EvE fails, as you never have the same "standard match setup". Of course it's plenty possible for a vastly skilled EvE PvPer to beat the odds, even with 2-3 vs 1. But the average Joe vs average Joe, gear will easily win the fight, expecially due to the dull and scarcely interactive microing controls available. Does not help that most ships above cruiser hull are as twitchy as sleepy whales, further reducing the amount of personal skill advantages.
