Is the Cheetah the end of the line for a complex scanning character?

Or would a Loki be an eventual goal? With all astrometrics skills to 5, and with Minmatar Electronics Systems to 5, would I be better off in a Loki than a Cheetah? Also, is there a way to solo the higher-end DED plexes found in 0.0 in a Loki the way one can in a Tengu? It would be nice to be able to run the sites in the same boat I use to scan them down in.

Just train for a tengu. It can scan and run most highsec/lowsec plexes solo without changing de subs and fit

I would, but my scanning toon already has Minmatar frigate and cruiser to 5. I sort of want to avoid training anything Caldari altogether on said toon. So I guess the answer to my question is that no, the Loki won't work for this purpose?

I believe the Loki has a similar Scanning Subsystem as the Tengu (I believe all the Strategic Cruisers do?)

T3 of any race is the best all round scanning boat. That being said Tengu can run the higher level plexes better.

The Loki, with the appropriate subsystems, is on par with the Cheetah in its ability to scan down sites. With max skills, the only thing that sets them apart in terms of scan strength is the Gravity Capacitor Rigs which you most certainly wouldn't fit to a Loki.

That said, I'm sorry to inform you, running nullsec sites in a Loki is an exercise in futility. It can be done, with the right fit and against the right rats, but it will be significantly slower and infinitely more difficult than using an equally skilled Tengu. The problem lies in the Tengu's ability, when fit with Heavy Missiles, to kite the **** out of anything and everything and to take down the Stasis/Neuting towers at extreme ranges that other ships just can't handle. It's the sad, but honest truth about every other T3 that can't project it's full damage potential out to 100km+.

If youre only after probing and not combat, covops is far better than a T3 for it.

Once your skills are high enough, and with Sister's launcher and probes, you won't much need the cov ops bonus rigs, not for high and low sec, anyway.

What you need is a versitile ship with lots of mid-slots that can handle the low end plexes, be a bit of a PvP threat, and be able to warp while cloaked. I go with the Pilgrim. Course, that means other skills, too. Drones, armor. I really only use it when I am on an exploration roam. In system, or just one jump from base, I scan with Cov Ops and work sites with different ships. Living in a WH gives me a different adjancent low sec system each day, so built in variety.

You always see questions about the best ship for this or that; the answer is almost always: depends.

If you are looking at just mag and radar sites, you can work those in a T1 cruiser, even in low sec. Just have to get your scanning skills up to compensate for the lost bonuses you get from the cov ops.

I'm not sure what to use for Minmatar but the Ishtar is also very popular for scanning + plexing.

Any T3 *can* do the job, but the Tengu does it the best. For PVE, it gets both the best active tank and highest DPS with any significant range.

Roll There's no way a Hurricane is going to solo any DED plex in 0.0

Both the Cheetah and the Loki's Emergent Locus subsystem get the 10% to scan strength bonus per level, so all else being equal, and assuming your Covert Ops and Minmatar Electronics Systems skills are the same, you'll get the scanning ability.

As for solo'ing null DED sites, that depends largely on what faction pirates you're going up against, what damage they do and what EWAR they use. Whilst the Loki has really good natural EM and Thermal resists, it's totally outshined by the Tengu's ability to dish out damage from range. Even if you go arty (and lose your drone bay, and have to worry about elite frigs getting under your guns and web+scramming you), you're still not going to be applying your DPS as easily as a Tengu.

But as I said, it depends on the faction you're up against as the DEDs differ a lot in nullsec.
