it was a mission reward, and i'm not sure how else to get one except pay ridiculous market prices that i can't afford. how do i go about replacing my Slasher or acquiring another new ship otherwise?

Well the standard way is to pay the market price.
The tutorial is the exception, rather than the rule.

Search around a couple of regions, the slasher might be overpriced where you are, but it might be much cheaper else where.

If all else fails you can just replay the tutorial at another tutorial system.

There is a fine line between a post and a signature.

Or you can start a career relieving other people of their ships.

Seriously though.
While pirating is a way of making a living, you might be more interested in easier ways first, amongst wich:
- mission running,
- small scale trading,
- mining,
- ratting,

Many systems have stations with agents offering missions and ISK rewards, few storyline missions might give an small implant as a reward, but all the mods and ships you got through tutorials, are nothing more than that: to teach you the basis.
I suppose the best thing you'd want to do to get started, is grinding a bit of ISK in the nearby systems, dock in other stations, see if agents are willing to offer missions, complete them and you can get yourself a new thrasher in no time. Just make sure the sell orders list is sorted correctly to show the cheapest first, but also make sure you don't buy a ship in a system where you have to travel through lowsec or nullsec, I guess you wouldn't fancy losing it on the way home.

A slasher is practically free

Only Career Agents give ships/items as rewards, other agents will give you ISK and expect you to buy your stuff from market.

Slasher should only be around 50,000 - 100,000 ISK, but if you cant afford even that:

Do more Career Agent missions. Each agent will give nice reward for last mission they offer, and if that isn't something you like (e.g. ship you cant use yet), you could just sell that reward on market and buy something you like more.

thanks for the answers - 50,000 looks like a lot more than it is and i didn't know how to check how much i had, so i assumed it was a ridiculous amount. lesson learned. though this raises a new question - if the market is entirely player driven, where do the higher end ships come from if not from quests or the like?

Most ships are build by players. One of the tutorials makes you build a small ship to show how that works.

Also some items on market are from NPCs, e.g. blueprints required to build ships/items.

50k is peanuts, even in the tutorials now. Most of them paid out 100-200k when I rolled a new research alt. I think I ended up with like 5m by the end of them.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

This, and I did the sisters of eve missionsyou get pointed to after the tutorials with an alt, that gets you up to about 10 mill or a little over, which is a nice little bit of isk when you are a starting player

Did you loose your ship when you did the kamikaze mission in the advanced warfare tutorial?

Because thats supposed to happen.

By the way when your looking to buy anything from the market make sure you expand you search to region and click the details tab. A replacement ship or module thats an upgrade for you might be dirt cheap and only 4 - 7 jumps from where you currently are.

Learn to navigate the market tab young one and go far you will.

All ships and items aside from faction ships are built by players from blueprints (BPO) or from their copies (BPC).

Too see how much ISK you have click your wallet icon (in the bar on your left side of the screen). Bear

To see the blue print type in the ships name in chat and highlight it then right click and choose the right option from a menu that appears.
This creates a so called quick link which can also be created by dragging items in to a chat.
Feature functions no different from any other MMO's out there except that this one also has a search function and not just a drag and drop feature.

The slasher itself is pretty cheap. I replaced mine for 12000 isk in RENs, I think. The replacement modules and ammo will add more to the cost.

EDIT: wow, I must have gotten lucky when I only paid 12000 ISK for mine.

Very rarely do ships come from NPCs. The best that NPCs do for the ship market is seed blueprints either through drops (when you kill them), on the market (T1 ship blueprint originals), or as rewards using loyalty points (the actual assembled ship is sometimes also offered).

Other than that, all blueprint copies, T1 and T2, and the subsequent ships resulting from those blueprints, are player-made. Their prices depend on blueprint cost, material cost, manufacturing cost, amount of competition, market shenanigans, and the phase of the moon. It's a complex world. Welcome.Cool

And if all else fails....

Rookie. Ship. Mining.

It's a pain, but it works.

Highsec isn't "Safe".  Neither is it a playground for bullies and bottomfeeders. So stop complaining and start playing the game already.

Better solution:

1. Dock at a station where you don't have any ships, and you are given a rookie ship.
2. Repackage the rookie ship, this leaves the civilian turret and miner behind.
3. Assemble the rookie ship.
4. Remove the fitted miner, and add another turret to the rookie ship.
5. Go out to an asteroid belt in a 0.5 to 0.7 system, and shoot a NPC belt rat.
6. Loot the wrecks if any. Sell the loot.

I think it will take you maybe 4-5 NPC frigate kills to pay for a new frigate hull.

Need turrets or miners for the new hull? See above about getting an infinite supply of civilian ones from packaging and assembling a rookie ship, which you can replace with non-civilian ones as you earn ISK.

Even if you lose everything in EVE, you can always get back on your feet again.

TIP: All rookie ships can use at least a single drone, which is extremely helpful when you are starting out in EVE.

Notice: you are another victim of random philanthropy! Check your wallet.

I encourage you to fly reckless and dangerously in replacement ships.

And don´t forget to INSURE your new ship, that way you actually have to pay only about half the price (if you get destroyed within 3 months, that is).

Whoa, distant memory resurfacing.... Missioning frig lost, no isk for a replacement, no way to earn isk. Except mine with the rookie ship. And not wanting the older, richer players in the corp know about my new player predicament. Lol
