Planetary Interaction scanning. Can't see heat map

I warp to a lava planet in 0.6 space.
I press the scan button
I select a resource type and the little spinning icon goes around.
I can't see any resources or 'heat map ' like it shows in the tutorials.
I have advanced planet management and remote sensing trained.

Have you adjusted the sensitivity of the scanner?

Yes, I've tried it all the way to the left and all the way to the right.
What exactly does the sensitivity slider mean?

Sensitivity slider does exactly what the name says, it adjust the sensitivity of your scanners.

If you drag the right end of the slider to the left, it will make lower deposits turn up white sooner.
If you drag the left end of the slider to the right, it will make higher deposits turn up blue/green.

So to give you an idea how it works, say you default slider ranges from 0 - 100.

At default any resource at strength 0 will show up at blue/green and any deposit with strength 100 will be white.

If you now move the left slider to say 20, any deposit with strength 20 will show up blue / green and anything below will not be scanned for.

If you now move the right slide to say 80, any deposit with strength 80 will show up white and anything above it will not show on your scans anymore.

This is a nice way to pinpoint exact where hot-spots are on the planet. This comes mainly in handy when using high-sec planets as you will be competing with a lot of other pilots on the same planet (keep in mind all players on the planet share the same amount of resources, means heavily used planets net less income then hardly used planets).

Scrunch the slider down by grabbing one of the triangles and sliding it toward the other one. Then grab the whole slider and move it toward the left. This should make all sorts of **** pop up on your heat map.

Exact same issue, Except in a .5 and a barren planet..

It could also be that you're looking for a rare material for a planet of that type?
