My friend that plays this was trying to get me back into the game again today. (I ran a char to 50 then got bored and stopped logging in)

Something about Rackgouls I think? And lightsaber crystals?

I had to explain, there isn't anything they could add to that game, or offer me, to bring me back. They would need a new, more interesting game for that.

For me, it just has nothing to offer but a moderately interesting storyline that (due to it being an MMO grindfest) can never come to fruition.

Call me when this thing fails terribly, they call it a mistake, and release KotOR 3.

I never played WoW, it looked like a terrible game for people easily amused. More of an opiate than a excitement.

If TOR is the clone everyone says it is, apparently I was right.

WoW was fun for a few months. TOR died in a month because of no decent content.

the sad thing is, biofail will declare it to be a success since they made profit.

By most standards, that *is* success. Just not as much as they would like it to be.

The problem any MMO has in today's market is they have to compete with the WoW juggernaut. I think TOR tried to duplicate its success by duplicating its style. The problem there is that WoW players who come over to TOR think "it's no different, and I've got a lot more invested into WoW. I'm going back" while the rest of us think "If I wanted to play WoW, I'd go play WoW. There's a reason I don't."

Eh, I'm going to disagree. I think Bioware didn't want to create a WoW clone and instead wanted to differentiate themselves and/or advance the mmorpg genre with Bioware's Patented Storytelling & Plot mechanics. Unfortunately, IMHO, I think that they wound up falling back to cloning WoW when they realized that storytelling content is expensive and time consuming to create and doesn't have a lot of replay value. Content costs combined with Bioware's MMO inexperience plus probable pressure from investors who were focused on making quick money on the Star Wars brand over creating a long term game, and we get a WoW clone with really bright swords.

I think they just didnt want to take a risk on game play. Focus on voice acting as their nuance. But I think everyone is tired of this formula in terms of gameplay. Min/Max armor/weapons...Mash buttons, same classes (Tank, Healer, RDPS,MDPS) Hell at least AOC messed with the formula... too bad they ****** up the quality assurance, and went instanced.

Here's to hoping for better things.

also, StoicFaux, This is "why"

Quote:
Speaking on the keynote panel today at the DICE Summit in Vegas, BioWare's Greg Zeschuk said that the company is following the rules established by Blizzard's subscription fantasy MMO.

"It is a touchstone. It has established standards, it's established how you play an MMO. Every MMO that comes out, I play and look at it. And if they break any of the WoW rules, in my book that's pretty dumb," Zeschuk told the audience. "If you have established standards, WoW established them."

the WHY is cause BioWare are idiots

I still play SWTOR from time to time and I find it an enjoyable break from EvE.
