'You're a spy'

Is there a way to prove without a doubt that one is not a freaking spy?

I left EVE about 18 months ago losing all my assets etc, but now came back starting from scratch. Any corp I apply to thinks I'm a spy because I admit honestly that I've played EVE before......

What the hell can I do? I'd rather chop off my nuts than spend my time watching people's movements!

RL happened, now I have time to play.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Not all corps will assume that. Some people will believe your story. It's very hard to prove one way or another though (you could be returning or you could be resubbing an account that has been inactive for a while due to RL).

About all you can do is not let the overly-paranoid get to you and just keep looking around for some more trusting people.

There is no definitive way to distinguish spies from non spies. That's why they're so dangerous. If it were possible to tell 100%, then the job of a spy would die off.

Any half decent spy has no ingame affiliation or ties to his sponsors. Spies operate outside the parameters of the game which means trying to spot one ingame is near impossible. It's all down to suspicious behavior clues. Paranoia pays off in eve and if a CEO suspects something, he's better off rejecting innocent players to weed out a potential real spy.

Some paranoia in eve will keep your ass alive.

...and then theres the tinfoil hat crowd.

Tell them the truth if they think your a spy joke with them a little bit about it they'll see your true character as not being a kaniving ass hat and they might give it a rest.

Yeah all good points, though it seems I may be better off getting a few more milion skill points.
I cant help but feel I'd have been recruited now had I just lied and said I was a noob.

The more corp-related threads I read, the more I'm convinced that there are just three types of corp:

1. Those that want to cheat and steal from their recruits.

2. Those that think their recruits want to cheat and steal from them.

3. Those that do both of the above.

You imply that they actually believe you are a spy. There are plenty of players who simply don't know how to send somebody his way in a polite manner.

All those morons that created blogs and mountains of forum posts about their infiltration/espionage exploits had their effect. All corps know about this now, and are constantly reminded to be vigilant against it. So much so that it had become a witch huin

Join a pirate corp, they'll automatically assume you're planning to steal from them and you'll automatically assume they'll take anything they can from you the second you look the other way. That kind of distrust makes eve friendships strong Pirate

I was a pirate at one point, had some seriously fun time tbh.
Though I will need to go in empire and being shot at is quite annoying.

You can always join [STOAL]. We welcome spies who want to sit in and listen to us talk about Game of Thrones.

One thing I would strongly advise against is lying to get in a corp. If you have to lie, it's probably the wrong corp for you. And when you are caught lying, the consequences can be bad. Just last week someone was trying to join my corp and while I was interviewing him about it I discovered he'd been lying, needless to say it didn't end well for him, I don't take that kind of thing lightly (he wasn't actually a spy, but he was lying about his reasons for wanting to join the corp).

3. Those that acknowledge both points, and have a sensible method of risk management..

Fixed that for you.

There are many ways to do this risk management, some more draconian than others.
As long as those measures are along the lines of: "this is what I would do if I were in this position" you're probably looking at a corp you can live with as far as the "trust" aspect is concerned.

Highsec isn't "Safe".  Neither is it a playground for bullies and bottomfeeders. So stop complaining and start playing the game already.

I'm sorry you feel that way.

Nobody steals in my corp and we have a wonderful time playing together.

A true spy would probably make a thread like this to cover his tracks, we're on to you!

The truth: a vast majority of the corps tripping over themselves to question you about the possibility of you being a spy don't actually have enough assets to attract the kind of spy they imagine is nipping at their heels from every shadow.

The corps and alliances that do have those kinds of assets have learned how to deal with such things without ever having to ask the question.

Sounds like those corps had previous or recent thefts so they become overly cautious over everything. It isn't hard to make corp theft difficult, and most corps that are actively recruiting are small corps with not enough assets for a spy or corp thief to bother with. Large corps already know how to secure their assets, and normally have ways to deal with new recruits without giving them too much access (the main thing is access roles, theft occurs easiest when a corp gives access roles to someone who really didn't need them in the first place and the corp was too trusting).

Is there anything in your corp history or such that would make them believe that you are a spy? Are they seeing things in your api (if any have asked for it and you have given them a code) that would make them think twice about accepting your app?

Otherwise, I would say go the the recruitment forums and make a post. Corps will actively go after you which will likely end better, as seeking out corps without solicitation can cause them to become suspicious of your intent.
