Noob question: gravimetric site scanning:exploration career advancement lvl 1

Hi Guys

I'm trying to complete the lvl 1 gravimetric scanning mission. I've done the first part (obtain a 'proof of discover' from a canister). I then get a pop-up message saying return to agent to continue the conversation - but he doesn't - I'm just informed that I haven’t completed the mission. This brings me to the gist of this message:

I've spent hours trying to scan for the gravimetric training site. I can find the others (e.g. magnetometric) but these are of no use until I complete the gravimetric mission. Any ideas. hints, tips please? Is it just luck? I need the 'proof of discover: gravimetric' to complete the mission and progress through the mission chain. I’m using four probes but I still can’t find the site!

Can hardly remember that, hehe.

The popup alone is in several cases simply at the wrong moment, like e.g. confirming that a certain action has been done, but should indicate that a certain action NEEDS to be done. So read carefully and try to interprete, it sounds like a bug in the mission script. I also found several bugs in complexes and sites which havent been there 4 weeks ago.

As you can find other sites successfully i'd recommend you try to find sites without the missions, and get back to it later when the bug has been solved - allthough i understand that it is nasty. Maybe contact support and tell them about your situation, but i dont have any experience with that and how they can help.

I had the same problem with that quest. I scanned, and scanned, and scanned and could not find the gravimetric site. Eventually I just gave up. Would be interested to hear what others have to say about this mission.

Noob answers for a noob question, so forgive me if I'm stating the obvious. Also I don't have Eve in front of me so this will sound a bit convoluted; I hope you get the gist.

When you run a scan you can right-click the results you got (e. g. magnetometric as you said) and select to ignore it. You can also select to ignore all other results. Lastly you can select to cancel all... ignoreds (just made that word up). Try that, as you may at one point have chosen to ignore grav site results.

Also make sure you run your scans not just from one planet/station in the system. Warp around to the other planets and try to cover the system as well as you can.

Thanks for the replies.

I went out again a few minutes ago and within three scans I found the gravimetric training site! As far as I know I wasn't doing anything different but there it was - I guess it's luck and random appearance of the site?

Anyway, I'm on to the next stage of the mission chain.

Have you had a look at CCP's scanning tutorial? When I first started I found this very helpful:

Also, make sure that you have the scan results be visible on your solar system map (there is a filter for this that you can accidentally turn off, so you won't know where to center your scan probes.

Thanks - the video is very helpful. The information given in the in-game tutorial for this mission is rather brief.
