First Mission Arc- What sort of ship do I need?

Forgive me for asking such an... obvious question to you probably.
I have just upgraded my trial and I don't know too much about the game, and I wanted to try the first Sister of Eve mission arc.
I don't have many people I can ask for advice, so... yeah I came here.

I have a Vexor all fitted and ready to go, but is that too big? Would a frigate be better?

I have only done the tutorial combat missions so I am really clueless, sorry.

SoE (Sisters of EVE) Epic arc is made to be done fairly early in the game, so it's build with the idea that new players should be able (not blitz) to do them.

This means the epic arc can be done in frigate / destroyers, but cruisers will be ideal, specially in the last couple of missions which require a bit of punch to complete (or a friend to team up with). After 3 months you can do the same arc again, and let me tell you, I did it lately and warped in a BS to kill one of the last missions and boy was that satisfying after the trouble it caused me the first time I did it.

J'Poll is right, but I recommend frigate or destroyer for most of the SoE EA missions, and cruiser to kill the final "boss". Even when you are doing this Epic Arc for the n-th time. It's much more interesting than slaughtering NPCs with over the top ship and weapons.
Don't worry if you can't use cruisers yet. Almost all SoE EA missions do not expire, so when it starts getting too difficult, you can always hold on the next mission until your skills get better or you'll get better equipement, including ships. Keep in mind that higher difficulty can also mean that you are doing something wrong and bigger ship won't help much here. Change tacticts and see how it turns out. Sometimes small adjustment can change ridiculously difficult mission into walk in the park. Remember, this Epic Arc can be done in a frigate.

Vexor would be just fine. I've run the arc quite a few times and really enjoyed it.

Yes the SoE lv 1 epic arc is designed for newer players in Frigates and Destroyers, but without high skill level and above average ship fit up, they won't be able to complete it solo. This may have been CCP's underlying idea in order to inspire and promote teamwork by having players fleet up to complete a common objective.

The first time I did it was in a Frigate fitted with Tech 2 modules. Wasn't easy to complete it solo and took some time to complete those few missions that normally would require teamwork since those missions are tougher than normal. The next few times I completed the arc I used a Cruiser which in my opinion is the perfect class of ship for players who want to complete this arc solo. Using a Cruiser does make it easier to complete the arc but it also makes it very enjoyable. Using a larger ship class to complete the arc is simply overkill and takes the fun out of it in my opinion.

Anyway, if you happen to run into trouble while doing the arc, don't hesitate to ask for help in local chat. There's usually players around that are willing and happy to provide assistance. On that same note, don't hesitate to help others who ask for help whenever possible.

Good luck and have fun.

I did most of it in a Rifter, but finished up in a Thrasher for a bit of extra firepower.

This. And I know what I'm talking about. My first run was in pvp fit Harbinger (don't even ask). When I decided to do it again I thought I could do it properly and went in with assault frigate. Wasn't a bad decision.

You can do the vast majority of it in a T1 frigate. A Destroyer will make things easier once you get about halfway through, but it is certainly not necessary.

The last few missions (beginning with "The Hive") can be done in a frigate, but will be MUCH easier in a cruiser. Given that the SOE arc is a good path from L1 to L2 missions, getting into a cruiser is an eventuality that might as well come to pass right then and there. The SOE arc will give you more than enough isk to get into that cruiser, so do it right before "The Hive" and faceroll your way through those last few missions.

...and there are players that will "help" you just to steal Dagan and put him on contracts for 20kk or so. Be careful there. Ask your corpmates for help first.

Destroyer is optimal for the first 3/4 of the arc or so. Once you start seeing medium enemies, the cruiser is probably better, though. The transition point is, somewhat ironically, around the mission where they give you a Destroyers book, if i'm remembering correctly.

Though I guess with a vexor and drones 4 or 5 specifically you can hit small and large targets equally well by swapping drones out. So disregard if you're flying it as a drone boat.

EDIT: Optimal as in "fastest completion", not necessarily most fun. The arc's probably more entertaining if you do almost the entire thing in a T1 frig.

The first time, try it in a frigate, and only use a destroyer for the last mission or when you really get stuck.
Try different fittings, experiment !
If you use anything bigger you're not learning anything but just using a bazooka to kill a mouse.
I really recommend teaming up with someone and doing the arc together.

I did the epic mission arc with a vexor three years ago when I was bran spankin new.

It was over kill. It should be more then enough. But make sure you have your drones skill to 5 or at least 4.

I for some reason had other drone skills trained up and drones to 1 meaning my vexor had like one killer drone.

Pretty embarasing Oops

Hmmn well I've been doing it in my Vexor and it has been actually.. ridiculously... easy o.o
So I think I might switch to frigate or something for a bit and see how it goes :D

Why? Easy is good for PvE early in your career. You're just "getting through stuff". It is and should be a rote exercise.

Challenging PvE comes later.

Cruisers are just above the overkill line for the Sisters of Eve epic arc. When I was a newbie, I ran most of it in an artillery Thrasher, and it was pretty fun.

Note that for the last mission or two you may need to dust off your Vexor as some heavier damage/tank is needed. That, or ask a vet player to come help. Many of us will be more than happy with a chance to cathartically blow away Dagan in a battleship.

So true especially after the trouble I had with him last time.
