He is dealing with it: he is talking about it with others and asking whether everyone is fine with such things. The assumption that he'd be terribly upset about it, and that his cause (rather than talk about it with the community) would be to stop someone being mean to him personally on local is not really warranted based on the OP.

He is in fact dealing with it way better than someone who just stays quiet and hopes the smacktalkers go away (or blocks them). After all, it is just internet words. If he calls for better community standards against such words, what are they gonna do to him? More words on local? So what? He can petition and block them too.

Free speech, moreover, does not mean you can go anywhere and say anything and not expect to be removed from the premises. If you go to a church during a ceremony and start making noice, or if you go to a private party and start insulting people present, you can be removed from there and no amount of crying about your free speech will help.

My freedom of speech guarantees that I can call you an ******* for using homophobic slurs as insults.
