Hello,

well, today i want to buy a ship via the buyers market.

i fill the price i want to buy the ship, i set the range to 10 jumps from the station where i placed the buy order.

fue hours later, some one sell me the ship. But, the ship is at 18 jumps from my station, not 10 as it should be.

how it is possible ? how to make sure that my buy will stay under 10 jumps ?

Thank you

There are a number of ways that could have happened, but the first one that comes to mind is your autopilot's settings. It may be set to "prefer safer" space, which keeps you out of lowsec. However, the market uses the "shortest path" calculation for distance, which may have taken you through lowsec to where the ship was sold.

but what i don't understand, is that the ship is sold to me to 18 jumps instead of the be at 10 jumps.

It's 18 jumps if you avoid lowsec.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

yes, he explained that. Hit F10, go into autopilot settings. Set your autopilot to "Prefer shorter".

What has likely happened is that the ship IS within 10 jumps away, but your autopilot says it's 18 jumps because you set it to avoid lowsec.

I will use a practical example of a situation similar to what happened to you.

Say you place a buy order in Lirerim, and specify the maximum jumps to 4. The buy order goes through, and you now have an item in Finanar. You set destination to Finanar, but it shows 5 jumps! What gives?

The path that the default autopilot gives you is: Lirerim -> Yrmori -> Eram -> Aldagolf -> Earwik -> Finanar.

However, that can be done via 4 jumps, which is what the market was thinking of: Lirerim -> Offikatlin -> Wiskeber -> Mateber -> Finanar.

You can set your autopilot to "prefer shorter" as opposed to "prefer safer" if you want to get the second path instead of the first. Passing through lowsec can lower travel times, but is (of course) less safe than sticking to hisec.

And before you ask: no, there is no way to make the market aware of this distinction. You need to watch out for it when you put the buy order out, or be ready to pass through lowsec (or even make a pick-up in lowsec if necessary).

I once had a delivery mission: 25 jumps. Set to find shortest: 3 jumps, through lowsec of course. That's why I trained for a Blockade Runner.

I recommend looking at a map when setting buy orders for multiple jumps:
* Ombey's 2d EVE Maps (PDF)
* DOTLAN :: EveMaps (online)

I tend to use Ombey's maps more.

That's cause, like already mentioned, the ship IS within 10 jumps from your location.

It's cause you have set the Autopilot to take a detour that makes it 18 jumps.
