This apology seems kind of insincere.

We need to keep this thread bumped. That watchmaker guy is gravedigging old threads to push this one down.

I just finished reading every post in this thread and I must say it was well worth it. Not saying that it is the best way to judge a game but you can get a sense of the 'life' of a game by its forums and EVE is very healthy, alive and diverse.
The best post though was that one on page... I can't remember exactly, it was somewhere in the 100's . It was the post that said whatever else one might say about certain players famous or infamous they have left an indelible mark on the game and that is more than most of us will do. Serenity Steele, SirMolle, Mittani, Serena Repose will all be remembered long after Eve Online goes FTP and no one plays anymore.
So hats off to the memorable players who contributed in one way or another to this awesome game.

I think you forgot Chribba. I've only been playing for a short while and I have already heard of him. I have heard of Mitt and Serene too but none of those other famous players

Lock this thread. You locked my apology along with two others. So, lock this one. The forum is groaning under the weight. It is free advertising for chronic misbehavior, and elevates one who should be humbled. One can only assume CCP actually supports what this apology is about, rather than condemns it.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

If they supported his apology he'd be permabanned, not given leeway none of us WOULD have gotten as we arent friends with ppl on staff. CCP has a horrible track record of this and its sad to see theyre continuing it.

Im more than willing to bet that if any rank and file EVE gamer were to cyberbully someone and try to get them to commit suicide, WE would be encouraged to find a new game if we were reported on it MUCH LESS being a CSM member drunkenly doing it in public.

At the risk of repeating myself. Correction: It wasn't cyber-bullying. What was done wasn't done in-game. It was (contrary to Iceland's Media Act) using media covered by this act to advocate the commission of a felony. CCP's allowing Mitt's apology, taking his resignation before booting him thus allowing him to run for CSM again, ONLY a 30-day suspension (no ban), were all measures to make it appear CCP disapproved when they actually thought it was funny. They disapprove of the negative reaction.

Claming this all falls under cyber-bullying demonstrates a woeful lack of understanding the laws surrounding participating in drunken, public events broadcast openly on the media. CCP's response demonstrates either a.) Their legal beagles are oblivious of the legal parameters involved, or b.) They understand no one will report them to the appropriate authorities, so they only have to mollify us.

Allowing the subject to be shifted to cyber-bullying plays into Mitt's hands as it's irrelevant to what happened. Going on and on about cyber-bullying is what he wants. What he doesn't want is someone in Iceland reporting this to Iceland's Media Board.

What "we" want is to not be duped. So...this is the last time I'll post on this thread. If everyone else stops, and it stays on the front page listings, we can safely assume Goons are padding it to keep it there.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

getting many people in game to then bully the person on the internet isnt cyberbullying?
Interesting as calling someone NAMES on Facebook can be considered cyberbullying but getting hundreds or even thousands of people to attempt to make someone commit suicide somehow isnt?

Ok, then their actions afterward where theyve bullied gaming media into taking down or changing the stories after the fact definately is

as for not knowing the definition:

cyberbully.us

Quote:
The Cyberbullying Research Center is dedicated to providing up-to-date information about the nature, extent, causes, and consequences of cyberbullying among adolescents. Cyberbullying can be defined as "willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices."

Getting people to repeatedly contact/harrass the person for the purpose of them taking their own life sounds like this to me, Ill keep using the term

another definition

Quote:
What Is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person.
By definition, it occurs among young people. When an adult is involved, it may meet the definition of cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking, a crime that can have legal consequences and involve jail time.

shall I continue?

The "I was drunk" defense doesnt work given that he wasnt drunk when planning the slides etc, and "I was drunk" tends to be an interesting (read flimsy) legal defense in most cases.
Tends not to work so well in any case Ive ever heard of.

"I didnt mean to shoot him, I swear I was drunk"
"Oh hell, not guilty then"
Doesnt happen, sorry

LoL!

The "I was drunk" excuse.

Literally the worst one because it never works. Try telling that to a cop when they catch you for speeding.

OP is a sad attempt at trying to cover ass after stepping out of boundaries.

Man, am I the only one that doesn't believe in the sanctity of all life?

Some people are less than worthless, as they continue sucking up carbon/food/water/space.

Also, this thread is still going on, lul.

..and yet, interestingly enough, this all resulted in CCPs attention being drawn to this individual and his presumed plight as well as assuring that they would make sure he wasn't treated unfairly or poorly in game and any such action may now bring forth more serious reprisal.

..approve of the apology as it seems sincere enough to me and I'm sure it is to a greater or lesser degree. Have yet to see what actually happened though.

Just found it on youtube and watched it. Having read that bit of nonsense on screen.. really?? The guy runs 22 accounts-doesn't bot-all by himself after a divorce.. .what a load of BS. Not surprised the Mittani did that. I don't think it was that interestinbg but anyone can see the guy was full of crap and anyone with half a lick of sense wouldn't take any of that seriously.

In short, the guys a fn RMT, not a depressed, suicidal divorcee. Get over it.

..not sure what your little Ari youtube thing is about; seems kind of senseless and inappropriate.

edit: hmm.. now I've seen the whole thing and aside from the worst sound ever.. . I actually saw the last bit where the Mittani 'incited' the crowd and playerbase, (btw didn't actually catch the name or details which would probably take watching that bit multiple times to hear it properly), and have to say it was pretty mild.

No idea what the fuss is about given I know I've seen CCP post things on facebook that showed player details just as clearly and where the player was mocked much more harshly, if for different reasons. Granted, the one instance I'm thinking of the player in question was deliberatley incited and harrassed into losing his temper and making threats at his attackers.

I assume a lot of real life stress was involved but I believe the player in question got a permanent ban as well as public humiliation in the form of posting video of the event in question for the whole world to see. I'm not sure how this is worse.

Also, I'df like to note that my previous comment about RMT may well be incorrect. The alternative of course is that the guy is just generally full of **** and trying to save his own skin. He may or may not have 22 accounts which he plays all at the same time on what?? ..15 computers? I have no idea, but I am fairly convinced that the whole thing is a load of tripe and wouldn't have been surprised to find out this all was some sort of absurd April Fools joke.

P.S. not really excusing the Mittanis actions, just saying this whole thing is derived from a load of bull****.
