How about putting "Pilot Rings" in the NEX store?

Each Ring purchased gives a 10% improvement to quality/quantity of drop or hit effectiveness.

With the set of all ten rings worn every loot drop is an Estamel and every shot fired is a guaranteed hit and instant kill.

Warp to any system you want to spy on.
AFK

Jump into a system.
Oh gate camp, AFK

the inverse.
create gate camp, AFK and wait.

jump to any asteroid belt.
AFK (wait for victims to come to you)

Getting chased while running.
NP AFK.

And I wouldn't be surprise if a fair amount of people that are loving your idea are planning on using one of the above examples or another one entirely.

Op is a genius and gets my vote.
Might I also sugest to compliment your "afk" mechanics idea a "save game" function.
Would really help, many a time I could have won a fight or suceeded at a task if I got a second attemp.

While an /afk auto-cloak would be unbalanced, I would like a marker in chat for AFK people.
I believe this was actually proposed to the CSM once (it's in the EVElopedia somewhere) and passed.

Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but this is a horrible, horrible idea (even though the spirit is right). Allow me to explain.

You enter a wormhole looking for prey, and on dscan you see a covetor mining somewhere. OK, you drop probes outside dscan range, set them up, move and scan and before you know it SCORE! One covetor at 100%. Retrieve probes and head to the target. Covetors, as you know (and solely used as an example) are slow to align and warp. You get on the grid with one and there's a good chance you'll catch him. So, you warp over, ready to feast on your prey. You decloak (yeah, assuming a covops ship) and begin to target.

His macro instantly stops mining and hits /afk.

Well frak. He didn't have aggro, thus he cloaks. You fly to where he was, you can't decloak him. Odd... covetors normally don't carry cloaks either... you gave him a free slot with an invincible escape.

This is a bot runners wet dream.

No. Flat out simply no. You want to afk. there are stations. You can walk in them now, even sit on the couch and watch tv.

No. Period.
