Jacky Blue Videos - Learning to PvP and failing less

Hey all,

My name is Jacky Blue and I'm a three month old Faction Warfare pilot and member of Caldari Militia.

As a three month old character (roughly) who has been focusing mainly on PvP I thought it would be cool to make a few videos of me failing at PvP and learning to get better. I am hoping to improve my PvP and have people learn from my mistakes. I'm hoping to also cover everything I have learnt from my corp and other militia corps that I have flown with. It is also my hope that new players will be able to learn a few tricks from my videos and hit the ground running. This will help them and their confidence in a fleet and also help everyone in Eve find better co-pilots and fights.

As some people learn better visually, and I was sitting in station ship-spinning, due to the imense blobby-ness of the pies in surrounding systems yesterday, I made a few test videos. These videos are just me testing out the recording stuff but it does go over the basics of FW and a few tricks I've picked up.

I'm hoping to add on to this and I'm hoping that people will comment on them here or on youtube to let me know what I'm doing wrong and what I can improve (both in the videos and especially PvP-wise). I'm hoping that by doing this, other new PvPers who are watching will be able to learn from this as well :D

At the moment I ramble a bit in the videos and I'm trying to get more organised, I comment on them as I'm playing so it becomes difficult to remain coherent when I'm trying to not get shot to pieces (which I fail at in video three)!

Anyhow, the videos can be found here:

http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoePpyYRpxJQ0jfS6xB-cTQ/videos

Video 1 - Intro
Video 2 - Faction Warfare Crash Course
Video 3 - How to NOT record a video and quick pod-warp trick
Video 4 - Directional Scan Tutorial
Video 5 - Solo Roam 1
Video 6 - Station Camping Escapes / Safe Spots / Tacticals Tutorial
Video 7 - Basic post-fight analysis (Fleet Roam)
Video EXTRA - Eve Online 9th Anniversary gifts!
Video 8 - Killboards and what they are used for
Video 9 - Solo Roam 2 (I die fyi)
Video 10 - Faction Warfare Overview Setup and UI Tutorial
Video 11 - Warping when fighting on Planets/Stars
Video 12 - Inferno Patch FW changes (some fleet fight footage also)
Video 13 - Feedback Video One
Video 14 - Noobie guide to Eve ships Part 1
Video 14 - Noobie guide to Eve ships Part 2
Video 15 - Moa close-tackle fleet fight

Please let me know what you all think :D

Many thanks and fly safe (but not to safe),
Jacky

This is not bad, I'm about 2/3 into crash course video and it's fairly entertaining to listen to.

You should probably use flat map with tiles if you want to showcase politics and region borders since unflattened map is a mess.

Regarding your KB and intro video, you're not that bad. Quite frankly, I give you alot of respect to being completely new and going out to PVP from Month 1. I have guys in my corp who are just as new as you and they have no initiative and can't bear the thought of losing ships despite being in FW . Mutnin should be proud of you. I know I would be if you were in my corp. I wish all FW pilots showed your tenacity.

The videos aren't too bad. There is the occasional ranting but not bad for a novice.

Bear in mind, you may learn that soloing isn't your thing. There isn't anything wrong with that per se. Some people are just God awful at soloing. But they're better in fleet fights.

It's always good to put a voice to a mortal enemy :) Where are you from?

Thank you very much for the feedback :D

I totaly forgot about the 2D map option. Guess I'm so used to using the 3D map. I'll keep it in mind when I use the map again in the future

Yea, like I said I'm trying to focus the ranting down to being atleast relevent :P I'm still trying to get the hang of solo-PvP but I realise that it'll take some time. I always loose because of some oversight, be it a drone, wrong ship fit, wrong rigs etc

I am South-African btw :D But I moved around europe a bunch and have been living in London for a while so my accent is kinda "international" lol

I got two more vids to upload but I'm at work at the moment. One is a D-Scan tutorial and the other is me using D-scan to find a solo fight, and then loosing said fight xD Was pretty fun and lasted quite long for a frigate fight. Was a 1v1 rifter fight

I also had a fleet fight recorded against you Eagles but it corrupted so I couldnt upload it :(

I'll be uploading the other ones later today. Anyone else please feel free to leave comments so I can fix what I'm not doing right!

Well I am not new but I have been out of Eve for a month and I've been back for about 2 weeks now not doing much in PvP but I enjoy watching your videos. Kind of fun to watch your progress honestly. Keep it up!

Where does it say he's South African (unless in the vid which I have not completed). Anyway,

The more people PVP the better. Awesome start, keep it up.

Hey guys,

I uploaded my next video. Sorry about the appearance of it (tiny box for some reason lol). This is due to my encoder crashing and then deciding it wasn't going to encode anything so I had to use an alternative. And freeware doesn't have help or support :(

Video can be found here: Jacky Blue - [4] Directional Scanner Tutorial.

Or on my channel thingy :D

I'm trying to salvage my PvP video at the moment as it corrupted, I got most of it fixed, just need to get my encoder working again! Thank you for all the replies! You are all awesome people.

Jacky Blue - [5] Solo PVP Roam, Rifter Fight

With regards to your Rifter fit.

Try this and see how it goes. The extra resist helps alot in 1v1 fights.

[Rifter, Rust Brawler]

150mm Light AutoCannon II, Barrage S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Barrage S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Barrage S
Small Nosferatu II

J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator
1MN Afterburner II

Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Small Armor Repairer II
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I

Small Anti-Explosive Pump I
Small Anti-Kinetic Pump I
Small Anti-Thermic Pump I

Ammo you need to have in your hold is emp, hail, barrage and plasma.

Not to expensive and the additional resist Mod are great.

If your going with a merlin, CAP might be more of an issue as well as proper shield skills.

Below is some fits I use when it comes to the merlin... "I know, no prop mod" But it has allowed me to kill thing alot bigger than I am.

With the first merlin fit you can drop the Shield booster and add a prop mod.

[Merlin, Frigate of Tears]

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II

Medium Shield Extender II
Small Shield Booster II
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator

150mm Light AutoCannon II, Hail S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Hail S
Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Rage Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Rage Rocket

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I

OR

[Merlin, Frigate of Tears]

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II

Medium C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I
Small Capacitor Booster II, Navy Cap Booster 200
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator

150mm Light AutoCannon II, Hail S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Hail S
Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Rage Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Mjolnir Rage Rocket

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Small Core Defense Operational Solidifier I

Hey guys,

Two new vids are up, hope they prove intresting :)

Jacky Blue - [EXTRA] Eve Online 9th Anniversary gifts!

Jacky Blue - [8] Killboards and what they are used for

Next video is me solo roaming again, and getting owned again, different ship and fit and set up. Should prove educational I think. Should be up tomorrow.

Thanks for watching, the feedback and all the fitting advice. It really is helping me and who knows maybe one day I'll win a 1v1 fight :D

Until then I'll be pew pewing in fleets,
Jacky

Jacky Blue - [9] Solo PVP Roam 2, Merlin vs Firetail (I die fyi)

Watched the videos and while the stuff in is pretty basic.
It's good for newbies to see things from a video, instead of trying to explain it to them in words.
I liked the part explaining the use of d-scan for newbies as I've noticed that trying to explain how to use it in game is often difficult.

As far as those other screens in map go those are system maps that can be used effectively but you have to learn how to read those.

The system with an arrow pointing down is your current system.

  • The universe map shows which region connects to what region(s), so not that useful.
  • The region map shows you what solar systems are connected to another, blue lines are your current region and greens represent a jump to another region.
  • Constellation map shows you connections by solar systems where reds are connections within the same constellation and blues are jumps to another constellation and green marks a jump to another region.
  • Last one is the solar system you're currently in (obviously).

Using the map is fairly easy but as the map cannot be scrolled it can get tricky when jumping between different constellations since you have to determine your destination by constellation and not by solar system you're jumping in to.

I rarely use in game map these days as http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Curse is far superior to in game maps when it comes to clarity of receiving information.

Awesome! Thanks for the info, the little maps are tricky to read, I did not know there was so much to them :x I'll be sure to mention this post in my next video so others watching can read the explanation also. I know of dotlan, I use it a lot to navigate around Black Rise! It would have helped if I mentioned dotlan in the vid though lol :D
