To Alt or not to Alt

I've been entertaining the idea of creating a second account for awhile now but can't decide if it's worth it. Here's where I currently stand, I make ~45mil an hour flying my CNR through level 4s.

Assuming a second account either as flying another combat ship or a noctis to loot easier will increase my speed by lets over estimate at 75% (~35mil/hour). To support the alt i would need a min 500mil/month for the plex + 3 months training time getting the alt up to speed and 1bil + for a ship.

To summarize it will take about 3 months + 1-2 bil to start an alt with an on going 500mil a month, all for an additional ~35mil/hour? Am I missing something? or are alts just not worth it for level 4s unless you plan to eat, sleep and breathe eve.

But you also fail to understand that 20mil PER day is all the time youd need to spend to upkeep that account. Over top that its ALL gravy. You can make this in the time it takes to run 5 L4s with a salvage alt or 5 L4s with a kill alt.

Id suggest getting a noctis alt first and then cross training to a kill alt. As itll be useful in a crap noctis WAY faster than a kill alt and pay for the training time for the other stuff as you go.

Another option is buy and sell forums. And just buy the alt and save yourself the 3 months. But you can start within a few days if you train right at the beginning with a noctis alt.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Ok so assuming I play an hour per day on average i would net 100mil? so in about a year i will break even on the cost of fitting a ship for the alt - then it's gravy. Not to mention now i have the added challenge of running two accounts at the same time. I'm not arguing that it can't be done economically but maybe it's just not for me. Unless there is some hidden perk? the valuation in the time savings just does not seem worth it.

I think the question what you need to ask now is "What do I want from EVE? What is my goal as a pilot?"

Normally alts are made because you want to expand your capabilities but don't want to disrupt your main's skill plan, start a new activity, need to be in more places at the same time, etc. As missions are just a mini-game intended for making ISK and grinding standings used in the main areas of the game, I would plan the alt so that it's useful for you in what you actually plan to do in New Eden.

I look at alts as a means to diversifying play time.

I have an alt for SB, Recon, Black Ops. (missile based). Also my lvl 4 mission runner.
I have an alt for frigate, drone, cruiser, exploration.

I have a general combat main (this character).

They each fill a different role or aspect of gaming. When the two alts get to a point where I am comfortable and they can competently fulfill their role, I will merge them with my main account. When my main is able to do those roles, I will sell the alt character.....

Like others have said completely based on what you want to do.

My main character is a plethora of combat skills across all the races (this toon).

My secondary is an industrial alt with pure Amarr combat skills with caldari ship skills added in for logi.

My tertiary is a pure tengu pilot who I'm now diversifying into battlecruiser/battleship skills.

It opens up some gameplay options that i wouldn't otherwise have (wouldn't have ANY industrial skillpoints, wouldn't have a perfect tengu pilot) so it makes the game a little more enjoyable for me. Are you looking for a salvage/combat alt, or are you looking to improve isk/hr? You could always pause trainings on your main and do 2 planetary interaction alts if you're just looking for a little extra cash.

The biggest mistake in Eve, for me, was not starting an alt sooner. They are worth their weight in gold, IMHO. As mentioned, look for one in the Character Bazaar if you don't want to wait.

And I now have 16 alts - try making Plex for all them!

Or do the unthinkable and pay for your account with a credit card.
You can afford a computer, internet and food so you can afford an alt.

wtf lol, 16 alts.

Yes, get an alt, useful in soo many ways. You'll soon realise that you can make way more ISK in Wormhole space or Nullsec.
It's in these environments where alts become essential. For example, logistics for running highend plexes, thie list goes on and on.

the problem with missile ships is that you want to count volleys to be effective. in a turret ship you can just target a BS and while you're chewing it down tend to your alt on the other screen. with a raven you're potentially wasting volleys that way.

I should buy an Ishtar.
