Now I'm not offended by this for various reasons on a philosophical approaches to entertainment and artistic view point that would make any ignorant book cover hater more obvious. I know the magazine is for gentlemen and does have a lot of articles covering many men's interests such as cars, tools, and the latest sports and living room gimmickry and that the photos of the females are a bit more 'respectful' art form than most of the other raunchier magazines but I cannot help but feel this would have been better in FHM magazine or I don't know just there are many more avenues of publication that is much more accessible than playboy.

Playboy overall from what I've been gathering from the medias. Is that the publication hasn't been doing too well in over the last few years. Probably because of the internet making the this magazine irrelevant on all fonts.

Also because of the nature of the magazine there are plenty of places where censorship of the place is absolute and just because it may have exposed female skin around the chest area in the past or present may mean entire countries may not have access to the website.

I almost want to equate this to throwing it under the rug.

Also I'm not sure if the current audience of men who do read playboy are into games but I don't delve to far into it. Youth seem to go after the more inappropriate ones that would offend me.

Already a thread on this...but I will state what I stated in the other thread.

A magazine for men. A game mostly played by men. Seems sensible to advertise with Playboy.

The demographic that CCP is aiming for is not under the age of 18.

Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821

Coverage is not advertising, everyone can write a article about DUST if he wants

Yeah but playboy seems to cater to the older men like 35+ where FHM is a bit younger audience.

Hmm fair point, its like the associated press cannot control which stories they sell to news medias and Fox news only buys what is left over.

Eh.. i see that advertising being in line with the whole dust philosophy . to expand eve's user base by subjecting them to eve's canon through an accessible medium in which a user can easily engage and be subjected to the eve universe.

Playboys demographic would be an ideal marketing pool for this demographic is probably in the 25 to 40's most likely they have a ps3 and more than likely they have cash to burn .

while it may seem a bit odd im sure it fits rather well from the marketing prespective.

Every study conducted shows the average age of gamers today to be in their mid 30's. And predominantly male, but that should come as no surprise.

It only seems like online games are full of children because they never shut up.

It's about time. Next to the recent Batman Arkham stuff games I always wondered why there was no EVE/ Dust review.
Maybe you need to pay a lot of money to get your game in their gaming section....

Shrug, its good publicity.

...and if we follow this further, it should be noted that the marketing team is clearly doing a good job targeting demographics as the OP saw the ad in their day to day. +1 CCP

Sorry I enjoy the occasional Playgirl though I despise the lack of quality it has verses the for men counterpart. Then again overal adult entertainment for women is well... lacking any sensibilites, I mean I swear the people behind that sort of content don't get women.

Well, their target audience has a hard time figuring out PCs so they probably crashed theirs by looking up 'free pron' on the internet.

What does that leave them for pron sources? Daddy's playboy stash, of course.

While it makes sense that targeted advertising holds a strong bang-for-buck argument, I'm often left wondering to what degree it becomes a self-fulfilling cycle.

Ex:
You market to middle aged males -> the majority of your playerbase is middle aged males.
A large chunk of your playerbase is middle aged males -> Focus marketing efforts on middle aged males.
This serves an additional function of reinforcing to everyone who isn't a middle aged male that this is not the game for them.

Sometimes I notice that EVE ads follow me around the internet to other non-gaming-centric sites, like youtube. CCP is no doubt paying for a certain degree of ad serving from Google, and Google's algorithms pin me as a good candidate. The problem is, I'm probably the last person CCP needs to spend any money marketing EVE to (because I already play!) I'd think a better use of advertising budget might be to demographics you DON'T already have strong coverage in (higher growth potential).

I might actually turn on the CQ if it was on the main screen.
