Neat offer... except that it's cheaper for me to go to the local parts store and buy the card than to buy the PLEX to get the card. And I would have to buy the PLEX because I'm not that rich in game.

I just checked the e-bay price on these cards: $140. Thats $14 per billion ISK, for all those who want dollars instead of ISK.

Well done. PLEX went up by 25M in 1 hours. Driving bitter vets out of the game is the way forward!

There was a mass rush on plex during the fanfest live broadcast. So now there's a 2nd rush because of the dev blog? I think a lot of people are going to have too many extra plex on their hands.

  1. This card although a great card, is mere weeks from being replaced by the gtx 660.
  2. The higher end 680 card has been in the wild for a month already and the midrange series won't be far behind.

  3. Even if you have the ISK in your wallet the math still doesn't favor this deal, you are better off just paying your sub and saving your real money, honestly the only crowd where this deal makes sense are for RMT botters. (CCP\nvidia facepalm moment)

  4. Finally some deuche bag politician is going to see the PR for this and start some new push about the various governments should tax our ingame currency since we can convert into a real-word item.

They could sell them for 50M more ... after 1 1/2 h after dev blogging. The whining will be ENDLESS!

Let me just look at these numbers.

Currently the average price for these kinds of graphics cards (average GTX 560, EVGA version: 10 euro more than average) is about 150 euro at the closest store to my house.

20 plex is about (15x20) 300 euro.

So basicly if I use plex I would pay twice the money I would need when I'd pay using ... well, money.

I don't like the deal.

the problem with this calculation is that nobody will buy 20 plex to purchase a graphics card. They have them already and you can' make them to money anyway... so this is a quite good offer actually.

That's not a problem with the calculation. The calculation just shows the difference between the value of the thing you trade in vs. the thing you get. Basicly its a horrible deal. No matter if you have 2.000 plex laying around, that doesn't change the value of either the card or your plex. It's still a bad deal, no matter if you can afford it or not.

You could spend the plex on extending your EVE account for a long time, or multiple accounts even.

So all the customs and other taxes are paid by CCP or do we need to pay for those as well?

This offer isn't aimed at you but those with massive amounts of in game money but not much of a real income out of game.

CCP, does this mean I can start selling old nVidia cards on the forums for PLEX? Was thinking 40 PLEX for a GTX 580.Blink

to those of you that are saying "oh, CCP is ripping you off, there's a new model coming out in a month" yes, there's a new model coming out in a month. but the 560 is still quite a nice card, and I doubt there are many if any other games where you can buy upgrade hardware for your computer with the in-game currency.
and people are saying "oh, I could go buy the card twice for the same price", well if you could, then why don't you and leave this offer to those that the offer is directed at, the people with lots of isk, but little spare money. also, it's unlikely that CCP got these cards for free, so they need to cover the cost of the cards, cover shipping+handling, taxes, import fees, and still if possible make a profit. I mean sure, they could have probably made it selling them for 13-15 plex, but they decided higher. I'd say, take the offer and be appreciative that it's been made.

If the price of plex ever falls low, consider bulk buying gas and electricity and selling it to us for plex.
How about a deal with Dominos while you're at it?

In fact, why don't you just buy them off us for cash?

Moreover it's clear that CCP cannot sell an unlimited number of cards through this offer, otherwise it would turn this into a way to "cash out" to its customers, like sort of a poker website.

No, it's not. CCP Can buy GTX 560 at (I assume) something arround 100€, selling for 270 via plex is awesome deal for CCP too.
They could do even more out of it, Buying all kinds of stuff blablabla.. hell yeah, why not do something like a plex for Real Life store...? Oh wait...

Plex RL value depends on the number of bots you're running.

sure you could. If you have that already you can now request a graphics card.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Im sure this deal makes perfect sense to all the small time manufacturers who's convinced trit and pyerite is free since they mine it themselves.

Fixed it for you.

By the way, have you run this through your bartender/lawyer?

It is beyond easy to argue that PLEX are in fact money, given that the only way that a PLEX can be introduced is by redeeming a 'voucher', aka. GTC --> Which makes this a straight purchase .. over the internet .. I'll have my European 14 day right of withdrawal please.

I approve of this offer, indeed, if I didn't already have a modern card I'd be participating. I hope to see more of these offers in the future.

my assets are worth enough isk to plex my four accounts for approximately 8.3 years, at a conservative estimate
