So they may not be great at public speaking, but for most it's a learned skill and like any learned skill they'll get better with practice.

I have little to no idea why I was used as an example in a post in this thread. Something about how I don't care about my surroundings? That makes little to no sense to me.

I think Authenticity is one of the things that you get from actually hearing a dev talk about it. I am so sure that all who gave the presentations practiced, and wanted to talk about what they were going to talk about - but yes, maybe they do not have the best skills as a presenter. It's not about being self-indulgent. Removing a WE, i think it's just the opposite. Rather than putting on a "show" or giving the audience something that is fake, or contrived... you get what is truly there. Whether that be someone sitting in their room talking about something, or a nerdy dev explaining about what they've been working on for months.

I think it's the decline in people who seem to expect perfection from anything they can get, rather than just listening and learning and appreciating the little things. I think audiences at times expect too much and are too selfish to realize that it's not all about them, but the idea and the thoughts that are there for the taking

If the surroundings bother a person so much, or the speaker bothers them so much, maybe the person should stop and think that the world doesn't revolve around them haha

xoxo Mint

ps - but yeah some of the presenters were really hard to understand.

I don't either - but paying for a public speaking seminars for those that want it could boost confidence all round.
besides, there is no harm in adding another string to their skill queue...

don't underestimate the power of fine oratory, it has moved civilisations.
I'm not underestimating "the power of fine oratory". I'm just not expecting them to be more than what they are. If they were the leaders of our world, it would be nice if they had great command and grace, in front of a crowd. They are only game developers. I expect them to be great at making games, not public speaking.

Yeah, but they're all grown up now and playing with the big boys.

I love honest and home grown too, but Fanfest has outgrown it, it absolutely will next year with the 10 year thing and alliance panel wariness.

I fear you are being nostalgic for the good old days. CCP is truly international now and if it is not careful not far from becoming a Caldari megacorp.

Doing a presentation even on something you love and know alot about is quite stressing in a room full of people for some. Now try it in a room of a thousand people with thousands of people watching streaming and your boss watching your from the sidelines.

Some of the guys certainly had it harder then others, but they'll only improve if they do more of them.

This.

A two hour seminar would go along way for CCP devs. If your gonna present something to a world audience you should be able to complete a sentance without studdering every word especially when every other word is uh.

It's not just CCP, every game developer presentation is kinda awfull!

This type of behavior is acceptable from a baseball player. If your giving a presentation for a product your selling you should want your employees to say more than...uh ya uhh were working on it, um I dont know if I can share that uhhhhhhhhhhh sure ya thats cool.

A public speaking seminar would definately smooth out the lag from being nervous.

The women were all well spoken, perhaps they had seminars available and only the women attended. Next year I would make it mandatory.

I recall one night in a nightclub called the matrix, there I was... Mother of god there I am! Holy f**k.

I prefer a dev that loves Eve and speaks about it with passion if not perfect english, than someone with perfect oratory skills and nothing else
This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.  Without me, my signature is useless. Without my signature, I am useless

I read, and re-read that sentence like 5 times, but it still makes little to no sense to me. Blink
