I came back after another break around 4 months ago. A month or so after being back, I was roaming in the belts and I see a Ret wreck. I check the owner, 2 month noob. Beside the wreck is an Exeq wreck. Next belt, a Cruiser wreck. All the same 2 month noob. He is still logged in, odd really after losing 3 ships and only being 2 months old. So I go get a blackade and I salvage the wrecks, reflip his cans so he can get his ore and stuff. The griefers do thier best to bait me, whatever I have been here 7 years. You don't do anything I don't want you to. So all is done, he is out 3 ships, I try to explain to him that you can't win, don't fight back. He's new, he has some attitude, thinks he can take on the Universe. I log out and do some Jita stuff. 2 Hrs or so later I am back in the system and I see a second Exeq. I ignored it but put him on watch list. He was off line. 2 months later, he is still off line. Griefed out of the game.

I've had the chance to experience this hundreds of times over 7 years in EVE. I have also had the chance to experience meeting people who were not griefed out of the game. All but 2 cases, those people sucked at EVE. They never got in to anything bigger than a Ret or a Myrm or a Harbi. They would do level 2 missions or mine in thier Ret and they all lasted a year maybe a year and a half. In one case a guy actually stayed around the same, 18 months and in that time he missioned and made around 2 billion, got a CNR had a whole fleet of Ravens, Drakes, lots of nice stuff. He of course got bored too though and as I said, 18 months was his cap and he quit, never to be seen again.

I don't pretend to be all seeing or able to scale EVE but chances are if I have seen something 100 times it has happened 10,000 more I suspect. So, noob comes to EVE, gets griefed out of the game in 2 Months you guys get $35? Noob comes to EVE and is allowed to be unimportant and lasts 12-18 months, you get $185 to $275. I think we can all agree, most EVE people are OK people, they aren't here to be hatefull. They PvP, they be destructive, they have fun. Maybe at most, 2000 people will truly miss the ability to grief unabated. You at CCP on the other hand have missed out over 10 years on anywhere from 4 million to 50 million dollars in revenue because people are being griefed right out of the game. I watched an Interview from Machina yesterday where a CCP guy talked about business models. Show me the business model that says you turn down millions to tens of millions of dollars to accomodate an extreme minority?

To be clear, if you don't care, I sure as hell don't. I could not care less if I wanted to. It's your game. I'm just here for the light show. While it kind of bothers me that those people never got thier year of EVE it isn't something I lose sleep over. I'm sure they are playing something but I thought I would share the obvious with you after playing this game for 7 years.

You mean the business model where they're a niche game, and the only thing separating them from cookie cutter MMOs is the "harsh" and largely unregulated play styles allowed and encouraged by developers? Eve is a game that is marketed on the point that it is hard, and you want to make it easier?

A lot of people play Eve purely for that reason, not to mention that the vague noob protection you seem to be alluding to would just be abused by older players and our alts.

That's a whole lotta words to say: be more like WoW, give everyone everything and get more shallow worthless subscribers that would rather play by themselves for a monthly fee then actually participate in a multi-player game.

I don't see how it's griefing, when the guy you talk about in your example thinks he can take on the guys baiting him. Seems like he is willingly engaging them. What exactly are you proposing as a solution to that? You can't protect people from their own stupidity and CCP certainly doesn't need to but in and tell him he can't try to take them on. You can tell them the smart thing to do and keep advicing them, but if they aren't allowed to make mistakes and be punished for them, it really isn't a sandbox game anymore. It's ok not to like it and go play something else. Trying to cater to everyone just leads to watered down experience, that doesn't hold anyones interest past a few months.

Yes we do. You're welcome.

Anybody else secretly want the next expansion to be goon themed? Goon events like burn Jita and hulkageddon have been helluva more entertaining over the years than CCP-generated content like incursions.

*EDIT: Although I am willing to concede the point that hulkageddon probably hasn't been more entertaining for hulk pilots. Probably.

I would pay hard earned PLEX (not mine, mind you, but SOMEONE worked hard for them) to see CCP decide to run a huge Incursion in the middle of Jita in response to the Jita Holocaust. It's perfect from a lore standpoint. "Concord, stretched to the breaking point by a group of Corporate Privateers, falters just long enough to allow Sansha time to spill in..."

By 'goon themed' i assume you mean goons do things while everyone just watches in awe?

If we're going to have real player created content there has to be some kind of player opposition to them, and people like them. Right now EVE consists mainly of assholes fighting assholes, and that's a pretty bad plot.

Hehe, that would be epic. Sansha gate camps <3 Maybe lower the sec status for a day. It would be amazing if CCP actually turned burn jita into a live event, they probably won't though, which is kind of sad Sad

Not really, plenty of non-goon hulks participate in hulkageddon every year.

Hehe, but seriously, lots of non-goons take part in hulkaggedon. Similarly I'll be in Jita on the 28th, just to see what happens. And depending on what's going on I'll either be helping goons gank stuff or trying to insta-pop their tornadoes with my tornadoes. Either way, it should be good fun.

I can tell you, trolling me on the forums won't get the job done. Knowing that I bother you that much for no obvious reason on the other hand is just motive for me to stay. I rather like that you find me that threatening, little Goon Jr.

Every time I see a thread complaining about something in EVE I hear WoW mentioned.

Is it that EVE players are jealous that EVE is niche and WoW is mainstream? I hear so much jealousy but I see no logical link.

Wow, seems like that "take on the universe" attitude is contagious eh?

We all get griefed at some point when we begin and honestly, most of us have done some griefing ourselves. This is what makes eve grand.

To be honest with ya, if I had simply done missions or mined, then I would of been out of eve in a week. If you want a safe strictly pve game, then there are much better "amusement park mmos" then eve on the market. Enjoy the sandbox for what it is.

I think this is because WoW is the perfect example of your typical "amusement park MMO". You are on the path that Blizzard sets for you. Nothing wrong with enjoying WoW if that is your thing, but I'm not going to go on the WoW forums and whine that it isn't 'sandboxy' enough. Eve is a sandbox, for the most part anything goes, WoW is somewhat the opposite. If you don't like the sandbox, then I agree, go play WoW, or some other MMO. Don't try to change the game that we love for what it is.
