Best to refine?

So i have refining and refinery efficiency both at 5 and veldspar processing at 4. Is it still worth it to refine at a high sec station even though i have no reputation with the station im refining at? i just picked veldspar due to how easy it is to get.

I hear most people refine in 0.0 only so i was curious.

There's this thing called "math". If used properly, it can tell you exactly how many minerals you will get from refining, based on your skills, standings, etc. It's really cool, you should try it out.

If someone tells you it's worth it, it's probably because the general opinion is that it's worth it and everybody is doing it - which means it probably isn't. If someone tells you it isn't, it's the other way around and it probably is.

My point? Same as the post above me, do the math and you'll find out for sure.

Haha i guess asking for a general answer is asking too much for a real response. Then again the obvious answer is always do the math when thinking about making isk in eve. Thanks for the responses.

It's only cheaper if your corp/alliance has no refining tax (which they most likely will). Refining at an array only yields 75% so unless you're part of a really nice alliance / corp that is going to let you refine for free (most wont) you're better off in highsec.

You can check the reprocessing efficiency of the station in the reprocessing menu. If you have a station that reprocesses at 50% and you have refining and refinery efficiency 5 then you will be at 99.5% reprocessing for maximum yield. If you have not standing then the station will automatically take 5% of the yield from you. The amount that the station takes from you depends on your corp and faction standings.

If you have the option to build standing then you should. You can use a service that will grind standing for you (by fleeting you and then doing level 4 missions you will get standings to). Otherwise you will just have to take the 5% station tax.

I don't refine in 0.0, so I can't comment on what 0.0 has to offer.

Refining Tax ("We Keep" column) Percentage = MAX(5.0 - 0.75 * Standing with NPC corp owning station, 0)

So at 50% reprocessing facilities you can at most get 95% yield with the best skills (anything in the "Unrecoverable" column is loss because of poor skills or poor facilities).
