I think most people that have played this game for several years have been where you are. I think the Brits have the right idea by going on vacation all winter. They come back refreshed. I myself started playing the day after launch. Here are some highlights of my career.

Early Years.

Eve constantly crashed, restarted, rubberbanded.

I was lucky enough to be apart of a great pvp corp early on; Celestial Apocalypse- We had many a battle with the likes of Tank CEO.

Back then you could put torps on a kestral or a caracel and if you weren't careful the torp explosions would set off the torp behind it, and the next, and so on, until you blew yourself up!

No warp to zero! A gatecamp meant you were stuck!

I've quit and come back several times, each time a try something new. This is the first time i've tried becoming a Industry Mogul.

Take care and I am sure you will find your new calling!

I think, when (if) I reach that exalted stage of ennui, that I will resort to long-term subtle pranks and political mannipulation.
In short, I think I'll take trolling to a new level.

But then, I've a looong way to go to get there; I might be completely full of it.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

New players could benefit a lot from your experience and knowledge of the game. Why not start a corp and mentor people along? Perks:
-Form your own corp, with it's own name, theme, persona and goals.
-Recruiting is fun. Much opportunity for slinging around some b.s.
-Mentor people and help them out.
-Experience a lot of the game stuff again, stuff you forgot all about, but from the perspective of the new guys you're mentoring.
-Make new friends (ninnies, twits and dweebs) and have some larfs.

If you've got to the stage where you feel you've seen it all, done it all and maybe know it all - there is actually nothing else for you in the game.

Often people suggest train some noobs, but you've done that in spades Blink so really a loooooong break or maybe Dust 514 will be the only thing to pull you out of that EVE-ennui

I've just come back from a 10 month break. My character is 7 years old but I reckon Ive only been active for 4 of those years. Normally I just burn out, or dont have the time for Eve anymore so I stop. But eventually I find myself drawn back, with a few expansions gone by and new things to try. Eve is addictive, no other game draws me back with so much power.

One thing I've always wanted to do was make my own successful corp, but I never really have the time to commit.

Perhaps try and create a service not yet available in Eve? Choose something seemingly impossible to do, and try and do it.

Get out of empire? Try something new? Join a real corp and see if their goals coincide with your own?

These kinds of problems with MMOs don't happen when you don't rely on them too much to fulfill your life or fill your life in any way.

As a source of fulfillment in life, an MMO can only go so far. I don't think there will ever be any MMORPG that can do it either. The Holy Grail of MMOs - the one that provides total fulfillment in life and never deviates from that - does not exist and probably won't.

Maybe perhaps when the holodeck is invented it will happen, but then people are going to use that more for pron than MMOs.

There should never be a "strange place" in this game, or the kinds of problems that occur to the OP, because to do so means you expected too much from a video game in the first place.

Heh just had the same thing happen to me, had a character up to 70mil SP, jack of all trades and able to fly all the sub caps I wanted to. So took the decision to start over, one sale / biomass later and I feel much better ^^, actually looking forward to playing again. Still, it's probably a little extreme for most.

I feel the same way OP. So I decided to pack it all in and move on to Real Life. I hear it has a really serious risk/reward balance, it never crashes or lags out, and the graphics are spectacular.

Would you really want to end up like an MMO addict? Meaning my game character has a better life than my real life? Did you ever see the WOW doc? A bunch of guys live together to play wow, and they say just that real life sucks, but in wow it doesn't.

Rather pathetic really.

Doubt it... One of these has come every 2 months since I started playing in 2008... Really just run a search for "burned out" or bored.

Hey ya pen, glad to see your still active Big smile

I was thinking about going freelance with the whole PVP School thing TBH. No CEO responsibilities and no time constraints, just basically mentoring young corporations on the weekends. I kind of accidentally started doing this in game with two alliances already without thinking about it, so maybe there is a demand for this sort of thing.

To log on and not be bored.
Or.
Not not want to log on.

Simple really.

P.S.
Something about fourth generational warfare!

Eve gets predictable really fast. For a sandbox, the npc/world elements are too static, and the players arent empowered to create their own mini games or content.

Oh and nullsec doesn't count clearly.

The emergent empires sitting in 0.0 are just static CCP created content afterall Roll

No it doesn't really, 0.0 is as static as the rest of EVE, you invade, you defend, you build, you destroy , you gain sov, you drop sov
spend 6 months in 0.0 and you will do all that probably twice.

The only difference in 0.0 is you have the perception that you're the master of your own destiny.
