Some things to keep in mind: at CCP, English is not everyone's first language. This isn't just true for the art teams, but for many of them. At the same time, some people are naturally gifted writers, and some aren't. If I know what I'm going to write, I can do 1750 words in about 40 minutes. It's easy for me because I write well, and English is my first language, and I write daily by hand about 30 minutes per day.

The second question I can't answer. I work remotely, so I've neither seen nor experienced any of the new CQs yet.

Not really...

Firstly I aksed about a blog mentioned by fallout in a previous post

I then spoke about the "new" racial CQs which CCP are currently working on and GPU load with these new CQs.

Both I think are relevant, no?

EDIT :

Thank you for you reply Fallout its very much appreciated! Cool

Try replacing "soon" with a very broad time frame, like

Minutes
Hours
Days
Weeks
Months

So, for example, you could say you expect the other CQ's to show up on TQ sometime in the next few weeks (or months if thats more realistic), and on Sisi in the next few days (Or weeks if thats more realistic).

This way we get some idea of the schedule, but you do not have to define a deadline.

Other examples:

We will be ready for the next step in this mass test in a few minutes
We plan to get the server back up in a few hours
We should have this feature ready for your testing on Sisi in a few days
Expect this rebalancing to be on TQ in a few weeks
This feature will appear on TQ in a expansion in a few months

If theres no time to a blog, what are you guys doing? You make the CCP offices sound super busy.

Frankly, my bet is that they are scared to the point of making messes in their pants and really want to do something correctly. To the point where they want to honestly and accurately tell us "this is what we are intending to do and this is our first approximation estimate of how we'll get there and how long it will take".

To that end, they are really trying to get their ducks in a row, IMO, and that does take some time. (As I've mentioned elsewhere, we shouldn't expect that 'all well be made well' by/in the 'Winter Expansion'.)

They need to mollify us and rectify the subscription situation or there just won't be enough money to complete Dust and WoD. (I don't really care about that as a paying Eve Online customer - but that is their business plan and I do understand that pressure.)

At this point, CCP might well be concerned about the continued existence of their business - period. Under that type of pressure it is best to say little rather than glibly say the wrong thing and cause a few hundred more unsubs. (:rabble:)

Confusing, much?

The community asks for CCP to take their focus away from Incarna and spend resources developing FiS. They apparently listened and are doing exactly that.

Now you ask where is the rest of incarna?

Then you wonder why CCP has no idea what ticks its playerbase?

No, we're asking what has been produced with all those resources up until now.

As Zulu intimated in the dev blog published last week, the company took a good look at where the game was headed and wasn't entirely pleased with the direction it was going. This occurred after we did our release planning, which had some very specific plans for both FiS and Incarna. What we're doing right now is saying "okay, what exactly is it that we need to do next to make EVE the game everyone loves again." We're still making plans on finalizing what will come next, and while we do no some fairly general ideas, the producers and designers really want to make sure we're solid and happy and can present information to you guys that has enough detail that will satiate your appetites.

One of the things the Community team has been working on, Guard in particular, is trying to get bits and pieces out to you guys as quickly as possible. You've seen this most recently with Torfi's blog, and we do hope to have more information from Zulu as soon as possible. I can say that this is one of the Community teams highest priorities. :D

So Incarna will stay unfinished. WiS will be one room CQ of Minmatar build and everything else will be trashed. Figures. Typical of CCP, release unfinished and bugging expansions.

A lot of people forget this point, even me. Having people work at a company where they speak multiple primary languages, a) creates confusion within the company, and it make for communications between teams .... rather uneasy. 2) While I would like regular blog updates on various projects, what you said is not untrue, time constraints, the ability of the writer to put words from their heads onto paper / web and translating them takes time, especially when phrases from one language does not directly translate into English... Russian... Spanish... Etc. I think, like the Inuit, Icelanders have 500 words for fish ;)

You're jumping to conclusions. Official word is being released soon. We'll be seeing the other three CQ but no word yet about the rest of Incarna.

In all honesty I am with those who are standing up for CCP on this topic, I for one am not massively interested in Incarna, maybe ONCE it's finished with all establishments it might be worth my time, but releasing it in small groups like currently is just putting me off, there is nothing exciting about CQ after the first 15 minutes of being in it.

However I am glad to see that CCP have responded to the CSM's comments and the criticism that FiS is being neglected, and that the number of new players from incarna have been so little it has not been noticed and if anything has caused the game to lose more players than it has gained.

I can happily wait another year or two for the rest of incarna, possibly for it to even come out in 1 go, with all the other races CQ AND the establishments to give us something to actually do in station, and for now release the kind of stuff players are asking for.

Allow me to translate this. I think it's very telling:

As Zulu intimated in the dev blog published last week, the company took a good look at where the player numbers were headed and wasn't entirely pleased with the direction it was going. This occurred after we did our release planning, which had some very specific plans for both FiS and Incarna. What we're doing right now is saying "okay, Incarna and the NeX isn't going to make EVE the game everyone loves." We're still making plans to release the racial CQ's, but beyond that, and as usual, CCP has become bored with the plan and iteration of said plan and really wants to move on to the next 'great' idea.

If we run this through a secondary and tertiary translation filter I believe we might also learn that CCP has concluded that anything beyond a 4' x 8' room, otherwise known as a jail cell, and more than one avatar is technically infeasible and ultimately detrimental to gameplay without everyone forking out thousands of dollars for bleeding edge gaming rigs. Ultimately, the Eve playerbase would be obliterated into a few hundred rich kids and the devs.

Whenever I say "when it's done, stop pestering me if you want things done" to my boss, he gets this sheepish look on his face and goes away muttering. There's only so much you get accomplished by prodding all the time, sometimes you actually have to let people work on things instead of delivering constant progress reports.

Unlike most employers seem to think, those reports take up work time from the actual work that could be done meanwhile. Just saying..

It sounds to me (in my completely uneducated opinion) that development at CCP is stuck in some hybrid netherworld between "agile" and old-school "waterfall" type processes.

I remember a lot of talk about going "agile" with your scrum teams and whatnot, but you seem to have abandon that path?

Not debating the validity of one process over another...just seems like there isn't a "process" in place at all at the moment.

But again, I'm way on the outside (my secret CCP cafeteria webcam has been on the blink since that volcano incident) but can we at least assume development isn't being drawn and quartered by four management horses pulling to the compass points?

You have a pretty tolerant boss. If I took 5 years and massive resources to deliver the equivalent of 5% of an off-the-shelf solution, then "stop pestering me" might not in fact cut it.
