Solo wormhole industry

Hello!

Long time reader of forums, first time poster. I haven't seen much on industry inside of wormholes. I currently have 4 accounts, but I may be merging them down to 2 soon. The only experience I have in this game for the most part is industry. I mine, manufacture, etc. I like highsec, except it feels too safe. I think playing in highsec takes part of the fun out of the game because you're never risking anything.

How viable would it be for me to take an orca, some hulks, and some basic drakes into a C1/C2 for industrial purposes? Would I be able to run a wormhole by myself? I'm not too interested in ratting, however, I realize that you have to clear the rats to run the grav sites. I think living in one and eventually maybe building a rorqual inside would be really cool. Anyway, what are you guys' thoughts?

I think there are quite a few people doing just that. I assume you are at least dual-boxing to make the mining easier. I also recommend that you get a WH w/o a static to hi sec if you plan to do much mining. A rorqual, whether it actually pays for itself or not, makes life much easier. Refining in the hole costs you 25% (and is a pain time-wise) and hauling is tedious if your ore is not compressed.

I'm actually 4-boxing right now haha. Why would a non static to highsec be good for mining? Less travelers? Would it make it hard to get the ore/manufactured goods out?

The problem with your plan is that you need grav sites in your wh for minerals. When the grav sites run dry, and they will, you woll be left with only pi and ratting sites while you wait a week or two for your next grav site.

Also, getting an orca in requires a c2 wormhole.

Perfectly viable in a C2 if you setup a large death-star POS, with lots of ECM and Turrets. Though finding on unoccupied one that fits with what you looking for would be the real challenge. But assuming you find one, most people would give a large POS a wide birth, and as long as you are careful about keeping your eye of the dscanner you should be able to avoid getting jumped. Very possible for you to run it solo with multi-accounts.

You might also want to consider planet types for PI, which can be a good isk-maker if you have lots of accounts with all the alts trained up to do it, and if you plan to stay in there for a long time.

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.

You could consider joining up with a small pos corp that doesn't really do any mining. Such as myself. I'm in a c2 with a c2/LS static. I only really do the combat sites and PI, since I don't have mining skills. You could join up with me, and you would be welcome to the grav sites. Already have a Large well defended POS, you would just need to help out with the POS fuel. Having somebody around would also give me the freedom to occasionally take a break and spend some time doing some missions or something and know there was someone minding the fort. PM me if your interested.

Industry in a wormhole, even T3, is easy compared to finding an empty wormhole.

You can always buy one. Not too hard to find on the sell forum-section.

But if you dont know w-space, you'll have to learn the hard way.

As someone who lived basically solo in a WH until recently (just moved out to take a break, already getting the bug to move in again) here are a few observations.

If you are going to be truly solo, you will want to run the combat sites. An empty WH is generally going to be safer than a full one. Even if you have a big POS setup, if you never run the combat sites, visitors may assume you are not active and try to setup in there with you. Not to mention the combat sites are worth good isk, and shouldnt be ignored.

A C1 is horrible to mine in. Trust me I tried. They can be safer, as C1's are not very popular. But their mass limits mean hauling ore out is tedious at best. The largest industrial you can fit through a C1 is a Iteron 5. Even with just 2 retrievers I could mine multiple trips of an iteron in no time. Refining at a POS will be at best 75% efficient. And a rorq would help but you would have to build it inside and it could never leave (pretty big investment).

If you don't care about farming combat sites, I would consider a C3 over a C2. C3's are not as popular as C2's to live in, as people like C2's for the double static. Also C3's are probably the most farmed class of WH's so site turnover seems higher.

Mining in a WH can be quite easy if you do it right. Rats only spawn once, and then you can mine all day. This means you can setup for max mining, no tank. If you get ganked in a WH your barges have zero chance of survival anyhow. They key is keeping your WH free of active WH connections, and deploy a covert ops scout with probes (combat or DSP) to keep an eye out for new sigs that could be new WH connections. No true afk mining, but easy to stay safe if you are diligent.

As others have said, hooking up with a WH corp can be an excellent idea. The majority of WH corps seem to be more interested in combat sites vs industry, so it can be a nice setup. They can keep the WH clear of anoms and help with defense, while you mine out the grav sites.

Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions.

What's your play time? I'm a solo industrialist myself with a Combat char for running sites/getting sleeper loot for T3, a hauler/producer, and a miner/refiner. I've been living in a C1 solo for a few weeks now building up PI, salvage, and ores. If you're interested let me know. I'm willing to relocate. I already have a large POS setup for industrial activities.

Thanks for the replies guys. The corp i'm in now has an interest in a WH division, so we will see how that goes.

Just tried doing this myself a few weeks ago with some corp mates (non indy alliance, and a few of us in an indy corp). I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

Going solo chances are if you try going with a POS you'll be losing your POS pretty quick (days, maybe a week). You'll have no chance to save it once it's found, and chances are you will lose some / all of your ships in the process. Best case scenario you'll just lose the pos and everything in it.

WH can be great for industry, but the key word is can be. One week you may have so many grav sites you can't get all the ore out of the sites, the next week you wont have a single one spawn. You'll also have to clear out the sleeper NPC's once a day, so you will need to deal with these.

Nearly every c3 we went trhough (from a c5) was big enough to fly an orca in and out, after which it was closed (fly in ships, orca, fly out ships, orca). Meaning you will only be able to get 1 orca load + cargo holds worth of minerals out, which isn't much.

With every orca load you mine you need to get to highsec. Which not only takes a while and several trips and also means you'll be drawing alot of attention to the system you are staging from. Bringing in a freighter (not at current mineral prices) would be something to look into, but do you really want to lose a pos, freighter, orca + 4 hulks?

If you want to do solo you are better off dual boxing (orca + whatever) which skips any need for a POS. Get into a wh, scout it out, bring in the orca and do your thing and get out (switching between ships from the orca, refitting, dropping off loots, etc). Otherwise solo wh is just not going to be very viable. With a corp yeah it will be great, but unless you have alot of isk to play around with it's just going to fail very badly.

I have been living solo in a C1 for almost 2 years. Mining ore is typically the last thing I do, when other options have run out. I mine for the minerals needed to react gas, and then ISK mine on top of that. I have accepted the 75% refining efficiency as a cost of doing business in a C1 wormhole.

In a C1 I think the best manufacturing to pursue would be ammunition or component, simply based on the ease of hauling it out. I have built some ammunition but only so I can then shoot it. I react gas on a regular basis, then haul out the different fullerenes to sell. I produce all 8 advanced PI items, which I use to build towers. Course, gotta build the towers in an empire station. In a C1 I would say PI is the best industry, especially if you get a good planet mix. I also do research and invention.

First I clear the anoms, mag, and radar sites.
Second I explore in low sec (have a static to low sec).
Third I harvest gas.
Fourth I mine ore.
I do PI every 2 to 4 days.

The thing about a C1 is that it really is enough for just 1 or 2 players. In fact, only one of us lives out here at a time. When another corp mate has moved into the wormhole then I have moved out (except my PI alts, they stay). Being that there is only ever one player at the WH POS, and mining is not the primary focus, there is not an Orca (which I would have to build in system, anyway). I just mine in a single Hulk, with a second account doing the hauling.
