Sorry for the noob question but I hear lots of talk about meta 0 items not dropping from wrecks in the next expansion. I understand meta 1 through 4 but what exactly are meta 0 items?

Meta 0 items are flat t1. So, Tracking Disruptor I, 200mm Autocannon I, Light Electron Blaster I.

Meta 1-4 are named (200mm 'scout' Autocannon I, balmer series tracking disruptor...)

Meta 5 is t2

Meta 6+ are faction/deadspace/officer.

Additional info:
Industrialist can create Meta 0 (T1) items using blueprints.
Meta 1-4 come from rat drops only.
Meta 5 are player produced through t2 manufacturing processes.
-----Typically, a T1 module is used to create a t2 module.
Meta 6+ come from various faction/officer/named rats, certain deadspace structures, and/or LP stores.

There are a TON of implications with the upcoming changes... mainly, the sources of minerals is shifting from ratting/missioning to mining.

Well, minerals already do come from mining. Even way back before they nerfed meta 0 loot from drops (but didn't completely remove), only 40% of the mineral market came from reprocessed loot. Now it's almost certainly much less, though certainly still higher than it should be.

What it also means is that new players, like yourself, can get a tech 1 blueprint and build some meta 0 modules and not have to compete with the flood of items being sold from mission drops. Common items like afterburners, guns, shields and armor modules will be sold by manufacturers and not mission runners. Finally new players can get into the manufacturing market more easily and make some profit hopefully.

Well, I must have missed a logic loop, but I fail to see how this nerf, and the 10% bounties nerf, help the new player. Anyone cares to explain?

It helps t1 manufacturers, which is the point. Not all newbies run missions.

I understood only meta 0 can be manufactured, but who buys meta 0 when they weight heavier on powergrid, cpu, capacitor and perform worse than meta 1...4? building mods that most people don't care buying doesn't exactly help making a profit.

Meta 0 mods are needed to produce t2, and the exact benefit of meta mods varies. Meta damage mods are actually harder to fit than t2.

The upcoming changes don't directly help noobs.... it helps industrialists....

Minerals are worth more, meaning mining pays more...
&
The Meta 0 market is no longer drowned by mission loot.

You could argue that mining is and T1 production are easier to get into than say, t2 production... but the truth is a higher skilled player will still do mining better, and t1 production better. Then again, it only takes about 3 weeks to train up indy V and PE V, at which point your set up for perfect T1 building (assuming you have a properly researched BPO/BPC).

Well that's buggered everything for newbies belt ratting in Hisec.

90% of my drops were T1 modules, so now all I'm likely to get is metal scraps?

Gee, thanks a lot, CCP, you're all heart.
