Walking in Station and local station environment ideas

I have done some soulsearching for possible practical uses for WiS. I welcome comments about these ideas

1. Decals in Frames. Rooms could contain frames where you can load decals. In Counter-Strike it was possible to spraypaint walls and I was thinking same kind of functionality. There could also be somekind of link in painting that opens web page or something

2. Localized voice communication. In station you can speak to microphone and voice comes from you. More far away other people are from you lower your voice is

3. Corporation recruitment offices. Corporations could have rooms that have paintings/links to web materials. This would be place for recruiting people for corporation.

4. DED agent site and DED deadspace site. Meaning of these sites has been clouded for me for long time. I have found in map that they exist and in EVElopedia you can find some information about their existence. How about you make some NPC guy in nearby station to tell some background information/story for these sites. These sites are not presented for new capsuleers in any way.

5. NPC guy that tells you about history of station owning corporation (for ISK price perhaps)

6. NPC guy that tells you NPC buy and sell orders in local station

7. In station its possible to transfer goods directly between people and I propose that this functionality would be limited to situations where people meet in person


Here are some ideas about local station environment but not WiS

1. Recent market activities window. You could have window open that shows recently opened buy and sell orders in local station

2. In market window it is possible to choose "Show Only Available" to find things that are for sale only. There is no option to find just demand. I wish there would also be option "Show Only Demand" so I can find buy orders for different products easier

Nothing should be limited to WIS only, especially not something like trades. Sure, extra functionality is fine, but, WIS runs like arse on a lot of computers. Anything we can currently do from the ship hangar, we should still be able to do from the ship hangar.


That, and it takes so long just to walk to my space-couch to watch space-adverts on space-tv, I dread to think how long it'd take to walk to a space-bar to talk to NPCs about things.

One more idea: There are short stories and chronicles that can be found in EVE website. Could these chronicles appear in station environment as books that have functionality (open the right short story/chronicle). These books would already have front cover as it appears in web site.

Walking in Stations (Ambulation) Needs to happen. The social aspect such an environment will bring will actually form bonds, regardless what people think. However, it needs to be done correct, in a timely manner, and smartly. Just a few ideas:

1. Station environments for every station is a little much, and very few people would be in the station, but lets say we have a focal point that every one goes to based on the region or even the faction that they are currently in. Instead of being in a lonely empty spaceport, there will be a single focal point; this is done in SWTOR (Star Wars: The Old Republic), but making accessible by all station locations within a region or faction. However, it will not allow people to travel between stations, almost as if there body is tied to whatever station they first came from. This would even allow corps to gather for information sessions even.

2. Station environments (cosmetics) will be based on the faction the region or station is apart of. Keeping design minimums to only 4 but allowing expansion of stations to be a little more intricate in design.

3. Marketing shops should not happen, however have NPC shops which can give you access to things such as Loyalty Points and things of such manner that will not deter people but having to run everywhere to do things. As far as you go is a preference but can be expanded upon as needed.

4. Social Areas, this would play a big role in meeting new people and building new bonds. Such areas; like we have seen in older CCP videos, would be a bar where there can be mini-games and such. Maybe even some gambling, and this would allow people to talk. Another social area could be war rooms as was one of the earliest mentions when CCP was looking into this. These would be social gathering areas, easily accessible from starting location as to not have time dwelled on getting to the location, but will allow people to see each other corp mates and maybe talk about things.

5. VOIP, a proper VOIP localized voip with the options to mute or not even be apart of to prevent harassments.

6. A benefit of the reduction in locations is server load, cost to maintain such areas would be drastically reduced.

CCP Ambulation is not as far fetched as you may have worked it out to be, computers are improving as well, and even so Eve demands more now anyways, but these things are possible. People didn't want to dispel the idea of ambulation, they just wanted it to be properly introduced and not have time wasted so poorly. I'm not saying this should be done right away, but it needs to be looked into in the near future. I have supported Eve for many years, and I feel its missing a large social aspect. This would compliment Eve well and definitely would keep playing and being more active longer than I've seen.

Final thought, CCP should not toss out the idea of ambulation, however, should be thought out again and implemented in a way to bring along a nice social aspect to Eve.

Not really, if they made 4 station models like they did with captains quarters i think it would be fine. If they have it in one station why would having it in all others be too much?
