So the Trial has screwed me over

Basically I was enjoying myself on tutorial did all the mining agents tasks and recieved my 3rd ship. At that point I was going to start mining and selling minerals with my new large cargo ship.

So I find out I cannot fly my new ship without a skill, so I think ok no problem and buy the skill. The game then informs me I cannot learn the skill in the turtorial which means I cannot use my new ship.

Quite frankly spending some time to get that ship and being told I cannot use it has really soured my experience and its been 2 days since I have been online. Now im thinking about going back on to do other agent work but in my head I know I can only do so much before I hit a brick wall.

Now I know there are some thing trial players shouldn't be able to do, but stopping the player from improving is not the way to go about it. I understand a level and money cap but stopping them from using a ship and learning certain skills is uncalled for I think.

I was not going to buy the game due to the p2p feature but I did want to try the 14 day trial, but right now I don't think I will continue with it and its destroyed the whole "Should I buy the game" argument in my head making it a 100% no.

the industrial ships are unavailable on trial account due to the fact that some players create fake trial account to boost their income(free alt-char in some), that's why trial accounts only have access to frigates/Destroyers/Cruisers, which are enough to get the game "feel" and choose if you want to pay for it or not, which is the purpose of a trial.

The reason that you're not allowed to use industrial ships and chips above a certain size on a trial is to prevent people from making trial accounts just to use those ships and making a new trial every few weeks for that. It may be annoying for newer players, but it's much better for the game overall.

Instead of trying to go for Industrials, why not work towards Cruisers instead? Especially the Exequror, a Gallente Cruiser, has a very large cargo bay for a cruiser and makes a pretty good mining ship.

Edit: and the reason that there isn't a level or money cap is that there aren't levels in Eve (just skill levels, which are nothing like levels in other games) and a money cap wouldn't really make sense in the game. Limiting people from ships above a certain size really is the most logical way to handle it. It gives people a taste of the game without being too exploitable.

What the guy's above said. Pesky for trial accounts, but using disposable alts for hauling really was a problem before.

What's cool about EVE though is that the hauler ship (or any other ship) you are about to get into is not something that is specific for newbie levels. There's now "low-level gear" or such in EVE. Ships are good for different things and you'll have use of that hauler for years to come (as long as you play) - you will not "grow out of it" when you reach a certain "level". So missing out on it for the weeks in trial won't matter much in the long run.

So you are complaining that you can't progress in a game you don't intend to keep playing anyways? What exactly is the benefit you would get from that progress?

You can do security , low level courier and mining missions or explore to earn money. Why would you need industrial ship for that?
You have finished all the tutorials and now you have many paths to choose from. Some of them are blocked for trial players, but others are open. Just have fun.

p2p? Pay to play. What would you prefer micro transactions? Id prefer P2P. Micro transactions almost always end up degenrating into pay to win unless its something like league of legends or tribes ascend.

By the way EVE can be free to play. Buy a plex with in game isk. Cant make it off of missions? Dont bother. Start trading. Alot of trades skills you can get despite having a trial account.

Im not going to argue with some one who clearly doesn't see the same value in this game as I do. Thats pretty short sighted. I just wanted to correct you that eve can be F2P if you know what your doing.

Given that you've just flatly stated that you had no intention of becoming a paying customer, it's a little hard to see why anyone would pay any attention whatsoever to your whining. I think CCP will probably survive the fact that you don't continue playing for the entirety of your 14-day trial.

It's a trial .. it's supposed to have limits. But there is a hell of alot you can do in those 14 days and if you want to mine you can, i'm sure someone will haul the stuff for you if you ask.

People have a bit of a habit where they say "I won't pay for something" and then they actually do, its called playing the game to see if its actually worth it. For example right now I have no money to actually buy the game or its subscriptions, however if I got a job that outlook could actually change for me.

Its called changing an opinion.

And now I know why the whole ship/skill thing is in the trial I might continue with the trial.

I understand your sentiment. I was reluctant to pay for the game too, but I got hooked (I switched to paying with PLEX as soon as I could though). It definitely is a great game once you get into it.

And that's the right attitude. I remember when I was on trial myself that it seemed like a stupid rule and somewhat limiting, but looking back I can see that it is an important limitation to keep it from being exploited. It also helps once you realize that there isn't a "bigger is better" mentality that most games use. Heck, just last week I was using T1 frigates which you could fly now (though maybe not with the fits I was using); there's lots of ships you can use on the trial which are quite useful.

^ What he says.

I've been playing for 8 years and one of the top five ships I use is the Rifter. Because it is an awesome little ship and you can do tons of fun stuff in it, and you can never really outgrow it.

And that's why EVE is cooler than other games. Reason #694 or so.

I see how preventing others from exploiting the trial can be a good thing, but isn't there another way to go about it? Limit the number of times an account / email / IP address is allowed to create a trial character?

1.) an account can only make 1 trial at the time. each next character you build will automatically be a full paying character.

2.) e-mail won't work either, people will just make a tons of free gmail acounts to make more trials

3.) IP adress could be possible but it will make CCP who is already busy overloaded as they have to track all the IP adresses for all their paying costumers.

IMO the current boundaries work as intended. as a trial you can more or less use the ships you should be able to use during a 14 (or 21) day period, as you can use anythign up to cruiser size.

I bet if EVE had prepaid cards at stores like every other good MMO (and even the bad ones,) that 15$ wouldnt be so hard to pay now would it?

The only place you could see a physical prepaid card would be in the EVE Store. Rare to see them else where. The cards are for 60 days of game time and costs in USD $34.99 + Shipping

You might want to send word to the marketing people, lots more people would find out about Eve if they saw real game time cards in stores

the trial period should be good enough to tell if you like the game or not. At least it did for me. Looking at your post, sounds like you do enjoy the game so man up and pay for a full account.

Pointing people to the EVE store is a sure way to lose them as a customer, they're never on time and don't react to mails. Since its start it has been a blemish on CCP's image tbh.

Wasn't hard for me. Soon as I reached the lvl3 skill limit I entered the $6 key I got from Steam and bam. 3 days in to trial I already had (21-3 days of buddy trial + 30 days of sub).
If you aren't that far in, restart on a 21-day buddy trial to get more isk for your dollar, lol. (Time is money, afterall).

Also mining, hauling ? Really? The most boring profession in eve. What kind of incentive is that. Ohh I'm going to pay $15-20 real life money so I can keep having fun making 20 million in virtual worthless money! AWESOME.
